What travelers are saying
- Elaine CPortland, ME104 contributionsThis park is a wonderful place to spend a day or afternoon. Definitely take a picnic, cooler with your favorite treats. The bike path is perfect if you are coming from downtown Safety Harbor. The park has an easy-access boat ramp if you have your own boat. If you want to spend time on the water but don't have a boat, there are SUPs you can rent (find them a little walk heading south back into Safety Harbor).Written March 11, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MennedyPanama City Beach, FL16 contributionsThe Safety Harbor Pier was destroyed in Hurricane Helene. It is presently closed. The people of the City are hopeful that it will be restored.Written September 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brown_SamanthaKennewick, WA1,858 contributionsThis was located not too far from Clearwater Beach, in a residential area. Following the Google Map directions were easy. Only a couple of spots for parking. The two houses are across the street from each other. If you have an hour to spend, this is just perfect.
It is FREE! Loads of visual delights. Yes, many decorated bowling balls, masquerade masks, colorful beads. We especially enjoyed the mosaic art work and glass work on the houses. You could spend a lot of time here to immerse in all the crazy and fun stuff. They do request donations, also you could purchase items for sale.
It was a nice detour for us. We enjoyed our time here. Only two other people here when we were walking around, so it is not a busy place.Written March 14, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s in the center of Safety Harbor and adds an immense amount of character to this quaint little town. Highly recommended by Cherry Wonderdog for all visitors.
As a bonus, consider enjoying an artisanal cappuccino across the street on the second floor at the inimitable Haven House bakery and coffee bar.Written November 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Great beer garden, super nice bartenders, and loved the food truck that night. We'll catch them again when they've got live music going.Written July 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marnette SWebster, FL2,414 contributionsWe were in Safety Harbor for the Hippie Dash road race to benefit Goodwill Industries. This was our third trip to town but I only learned about Folly Farm Nature Preserve from doing some sightseeing research. We visited on Mother's Day morning and practically had the entire park to ourselves. What a sanctuary!
We learned the history of the preserve from a helpful worker who explained that George and Lucille Weiss purchased the property, developed it and then bequeathed it to the city. Until his death in 2023, George continued to visit the farm regularly and sit in his favorite chair in George's Garden. George named the preserve after friends called his hobby of growing chickens a "folly." The preserve is anything but. He was beloved by all.
We spent about an hour strolling the grounds and taking one of the paths around the perimeter. The local garden club takes excellent care of the park and we noticed new trees they planted. Whimsical touches make this a favorite for all ages: Gnomeo, the 17' tall gnome takes center stage. Many plants native to Florida are carefully marked. We are newer residents and enjoyed learning about native plants. Children were enjoying the playground; picnic tables are available along with clean restrooms. The Butterfly Garden is another focal point.
One of the most poignant features of the preserve is the "wind phone" patterned after the one in Otsuchi, Japan. The rotary phone encourages those grieving to 'call' their loved ones. "I can't hear him. It's just me talking, but he heard me so I can keep on living," said one Japanese resident of the wind phone and her way of coping. The concept is for words and thoughts to be carried on the wind. Folly Farms wind phone is set in its own private booth.
On the second Saturday of the month, a “Folly Faire” is held with vendors and activities.
The farm also has a community garden where locals grow their own food in their private spaces. We were able to see two juvenile red-shouldered hawks high in a palm tree. The attendant has observed the parents bringing snakes to them.

- Donna CDunedin, FL2 contributionsBrought up as a Roman Catholic, I became disillusioned with them after the Church changed rules and I became aware that they were not accepting and loving to all people. They say they are but in practice, not. I found Holy Spirit quite by chance. I was curious about their tag line which states the they are about relationships and not rules. I attended a Mass there and felt as if I had come home. People in this Church are genuinely caring and welcoming and I have never felt this kind of love from any other church I have attended. I would recommend this Church to anyone as it is NOT exclusive: they welcome all people whether you are Catholic, Protestant, divorced, LGBT...all are truly welcome!Written February 13, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
