What a great place! We had two hours to spend here, but needed at least another half hour to see everything. We did a guided tour with Jack who was very knowledgeable. We took our two teenagers with us and they also enjoyed the museum. We really liked the train cars that we could walk through – the sleeping car, the dining car, and the post office car. Jack did a great job, giving us highlights during the 30 minute tour, and then we went back through the museum on our own, to read more about the things he showed us. There are life-size train cars inside the museum, which are huge! The upper level had a floor dedicated to model trains. Beautiful models with trains, buildings, landscaping, etc. If you have little ones, there is even a play area for kids to play with wooden train toys. What a wonderful place to visit and we highly recommend it. We really recommend the free 30-minute guided tour. Don’t miss out!

There is a parking garage right across the street that costs $10 or you can find 2-hour on street metered parking (takes quarters and credit cards- $1.75 minimum for one hour.)

This is my third visit to the Crocker Museum of Art. (I'm surprised that I didn't submit a review after my first visit in 2015.)

Founded in 1885, The Crocker Art Museum is the oldest art museum in the Western United States. The collection includes American works dating back to the Gold Rush era to the present, European paintings and master drawings, a collection of international ceramics, and a smattering of Asian, African and Oceanic art.

This museum has its permanent collection, and hosts visiting exhibitions.

I have been to some major metropolitan museums (the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, for example) that are so large, you really need a couple of days to see and appreciate "everything" inside. The Crocker Museum, on the other hand, has a very nice, diverse, "representative" collection of art. The size of the museum and its collection(s) won't overwhelm you, and you can tour the museum in one visit without feeling that you've missed something.

Sacramento should feel fortunate to have a museum of this quality, for the benefit of its residents and visitors.

Since we had a 2 hour wait for dining, we decided to walk around Old Sac. Not much has changed, but there is a new olive oil business there called, The Chef’s Olive Mix. What great was to spend time—tasting various infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars! The young lady working there was super helpful and knowledgeable about the products. I will definitely go back to that place!

It' s not really a museum in the conventional sense. The whole building is the museum. Some rooms have been set up as they were in 1906 and you can look through the doorway at them. There is a more museum-like room that emphasizes the history of the state flag. You can wander around the building by yourself, but you'll see more if you take a guided tour. We took a tour led by Logan, a very pleasant and knowledgeable person who filled us in on state history and explained much about the decorations and architectural details. The tours are free, and definitely worth the time.

We were there in mid-May, and there was a lot of construction going on, inside and out, and on the surrounding streets. Parking in the area may be difficult. Note that you will need to pass through a security screening to get in.

The hallways are wide and smooth, very accessible for someone with a walking aid or wheelchair. There are elevators between floors.

What a surprise! This park was an amazing gem hidden in plain sight. You would not expect a park like this in the middle of a major downtown. The wide variety of trees and other vegetation was amazing. It was very peaceful. Well worth a stroll.

My friends and I attended Mass on Sunday morning while visiting Sacramento. The sanctuary is awe inspiring. The priest gave a great message and personally greeted the worshippers after the service. It's well worth a visit to see the sanctuary without attending a service.

I was in Sacramento for Memorial Day weekend and decided to do a bicycle ride from Sacramento's Discovery Park, the confluence of both the American and Sacramento Rivers. I rode East around Lake Natoma via the Folsom Historic Truss Bridge, returning via the Natoma Bike Path and back on the American River Bicycle Trail. This is a relatively flat route and fun, with turns and twists as the trail wends through the riparian zone along the river. There's abundant shade, the few rises, mostly climbs up on to the levy, and a little more as you climb up the bluffs along Lake Natoma, but the climbs are short and the grades are gentle. Along the way you awesome views of the river. Given the Sierra snowpack as of Spring '23, the snow melt is pouring huge amounts of water and the river was flowing fast. Given the Memorial Day weekend, there was plenty of foot and bicycle traffic, but the trails were never crowded.

So, let's start with some basics:

The only original remaining structure of Sutter's Fort is the "main building"--a two story structure in the center of the complex. It was built between 1841 and 1843. Everything else at "Sutter's Fort State Historic Park" is a reconstruction, based on historic documentation.

Entry is $5 for adults; $3 for ages 6 to 17; and children enter for free. Sutter's Fort State Historic Park does not have its own parking lot. Metered city parking is available on 26th and K streets, and there are several public parking lots in the vicinity.

It has been 25 years since my last visit. Since then, a lot of re-construction and restoration work has been performed. There are a more displays and demonstrations than I remember. (Coincidentally, school field trips were taking place during my visit. I kept my distance, but was able to observe staff and volunteers give their presentations and conduct their demonstrations.)

If you're interested in history, Sutter's Fort is well worth the visit. Everyone can walk away with from their visit with a number of different of interpretations, based on context of analysis.

BTW ... The State Indian Museum is adjacent to the Fort. If you have the time, you can tour that museum for a separate admission fee.

There's good and bad here, but much more good. These are mainly 'everyday' cars. There's a classic or two (nice Stutz, a KB Lincoln) but most are what you might have driven back in the day - which is fine, and does include some genuine brass era / nickel era autos as well. Doecents are overwhelmingly willing to explain and describe, though I politely declined - pretty much a car nut and the overheard comments were things like - know where the gas cap is? Good for the uninitiated. Display suufers from some park in row itis - oh, look, front of car, back of car, along with the unforgivable drive in screen - oh look, back of car, fantastic. Perhaps they are hoping space given over to the resale vehicles (a dealership of sorts) will be needed for inventory, and thus the rather confined placemen 9After all a lot of these are not inherently high dollar vehicles, or concours restorations). You CAN sit in a few vehicles - I enjoyed the 56 Buick, and its brobdingnagian steering wheel. Consider this a slice of life collection and enjoy.

Went here for a walk and had such fun. There was a car show going on and we got to see over 100 cooly done retro vehicles. The park is well shaded so you can walk comfortably even in warmer weather.

We had a great time and we didn't even see the Fairyland part or the Golf Course...an amazing location!

We used to take our dog Homer for a walk, once in a while we brought our lunches there. You'll meet other friendly dog owners, cyclists and runners too. The Rose Garden there is the main attraction, there are plenty of nice picnic tables. It's just nice to be there, unwind relax...

The Bad: You have to buy your tickets in advance online. You can not buy at the zoo itself. You have to purchase tickets for the train rides and carousel via credit or debit card. For the store, you can only pay with card. As for the food and drink vendors, I am not sure if they only take card because we did not partake. Covid-19 has put a damper on things all around.

The Good: Sacramento Zoo went above and beyond to help me get tickets for my son and I to visit the zoo. He had traveled all the way down from Chico and I had made the mistake of not buying tickets right away. Lesson learned. The animals are well cared for. The animal exhibits are on plentiful. The Zoo is clean and well sanitized. The employees are professional. Over all, we really had an amazing day and we can’t thank Sacramento Zoo for making it happen. ❤️

It’s not the Golden Gate Bridge but it is cool. You can look right down to the state Capitol which is a nice photo. It is a vertical lift bridge so the middle bit lifts up - I didn’t see this but it sounds quite cool.
