A must if you are visiting Monterey. So much to see and do. You have to book prior to arrival. Don’t think you can just turn up.

Loved this. I started this drive early (around 8:20) and entered through pacific grove. It was quiet and each stop I had to myself basically. If you arrive at the golf course visitor Center before 10 it is still closed so just bear that in mind if you want to visit there.

While Monterey is always busy, it is one of the most beautiful oceanside areas to relax. Bring a jacket as the wind can pick up!

    Nice location overlooking the beach.

Food was home cooked Caribbean style and really tasty. Can recommend the BBQ rubs, which were soon tender.

Took the bus from Lighthouse Avenue to Asilomar State Beach (got off at the Asilomar/Sunset stop) and walked the five miles along the coast back to Cannery Row. Lovely trail! Very breezy on the ocean side, not much shade, but an easy walk with plenty of benches along the way

We enjoyed touring the sideshow like wharf. There are many wharf sights in such a beautiful setting. Enjoy the restaurants, sights, sea life and activity.

Nice to walk along the pier and see the sea lions lounging on the rocks. Best to visit at low tide when the sea lions have lots of rocks to lay on.

Although our tour guide explained all the people in the monument, John Steinbeck to a Madam, I don't remember them all. The scenery was beautiful and a lot was to be learned about the people in the monument.

... right up the hill from the Navy Lodge I'm staying at here in Monterey. I was here for 10 days back in May I think it was and I would have definitely come here to hike if I would have known about it. Really nice, easy trails to navigate. Is perfect weather today. Tried the short and easy Skyline Trail first which had a few epic views of Monterey and the bay. Then made a big loop with the Iris and Rhus Trails. They were up and down a little - a bit steep(ish) in a couple spots. Then I finished with the Jacks Peaks Trail which Wasn't all that difficult either. I guess I jacked up my knee some more With the almost three and a half miles I did here. It's been hurting a few days but now it really feels on edge. Not a good way to start my upcoming trip to... Oh yea, I was thinking a little about Dan and Mary's son Jack and his wife Alexa today because of the name. I think they're visiting him today or tomorrow. They're good people.

If you haven't been to Monterey before, take the trolley to get an idea of what is different areas of the city. The trolley is free and the entire round trip takes about 20-25 minutes.

during our walks in Monterey this was one of our favorite places to come to see all the Wildlife the last day we were there we saw a clump of otters just playing and hanging out it was about 20 of them that were floating among the seaweed in the kelp and there are about 20 feet away from the water and it was just a fantastic experience of sea life. They are doing a great job of ensuring that the animals are protected and not bothered

Right next to our hotel. Ducked into the free museum. Unguided tour. Beautiful grounds. Not for a whole day. Maybe an hour.

Growing up reading Steinbeck, I thought that Doc (Ed) Ricketts was a fictional character... I learned otherwise. Ed Ricketts was the grandfather of modern Marine Biology, and he was a real character. They only open up his lab once or twice a year for visits, but I can't remember when. If you're interested in Steinbeck and/or Marine Biology, this is a MUST SEE! Fun fact: Ed Ricketts was the man responsible for frog disection in high school biology classes.

This is still an operating church complex and open during the day. A very nice and well maintained example of mission churches of early California, although not one of the 21 California Missions. Beautiful and calming interior. A restful stop when walking around Monterey.
