ATTENTION: Park at their free public parking lot and take the free shuttle to the Living Coast Discovery Center!

You cannot walk, hike or bike onto the the San Diego Bay Wildlife Refuge which the Living Coast Discovery Center sits within.

Their free shuttle also transports those that just want to access the San Diego Bay Wildlife Refuge paths that are free of charge to explore.

If you follow apps such as Google Maps they will direct you to the Center but you can't access the Refuge/Discovery Center via a private vehicle.

Animal lovers, especially those into raptors, will love this place.

They house injured and rehabilitated creatures.

They have in-depth presentations of the eagle, sea turtle and sharks/rays at certain times of the day Wed-Sun.

Every Saturday there is a great walking tour outdoors giving you insight to the surrounding marsh ecosystem.

If you're a bicyclist, the Center is right off of the Bayshore Bikeway though the new parking lot has no bike rack so you're best bet is the shuttle shelter poles.

The San Diego MTS Blue Line E Street Trolley Station is nearby, about a 10 minute walk.

Our recent “Gold” tour of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site / Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center was instructive, enlightening, and inspirational -- highly recommended for all ages! Our guide, Stephanie, was perfect: warm, personable, and informative. Stephanie (a former ice skater) smoothly guided us across a broad swath of the 155-acre campus supporting track and field, BMX supercross, field hockey, soccer, rugby, volleyball, tennis, archery and more. Availability of a golf cart was especially useful to one of our group recovering from a recent knee replacement. Throughout the day we observed many athletes at practice (Stephanie frequently noted Olympians by name, many having recently competed and won in the Tokyo games). Some athletes had just returned from the Para Athletics World Championships in Paris while others were preparing for future competitive events. We marveled over their dedication and skill. We admired the large strength training facility and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch in the dining hall. We even appreciated the presence of an osprey, likely making its home at the nearby lake, also part of the training facility. We encourage all to visit the Center, as it will certainly provide important insight and appreciation for Olympians preparing for Paris 2024!

Only 40 minutes south of the San Ysidro/San Diego border, this lovely small town has it all! A variety of places to stay, with the historic Rosarito Beach Hotel standing out, you can eat fancy or cheap and all of it good and fairly priced! Want California Fusion Cuisine? Try Susanna's! Fabulous tacos...most anywhere "on the street." Sensational Mole? We love Cazuela de Mole. You can't stay long enough to eat all the good food! Great wide sand beach, fun drinking spots! What else could you ask for? GO!

What a great walk, the sea breezes, sunny weather, happy people, the Marina..I could go on and on.
The ease of parking down here and slower pace is a welcome relief from the hustle and bustle of LA...

We visited in February when the weather was overcast. Few visitors disturbed our peace and quite. We had a picnic on the grass and watched the waves and gulls. It was a great way to spend a Saturday.

Extremely welcoming (owner, staff & regulars). Their Michelada is awesome… the mix used is homemade. Beers are quite drinkable with the lager being perhaps the most drinkable one we’ve ever had.

This offers a secret walking trail on the water. The salt beds offer a myriad of colors depending on the time of day. Watch out for cyclists.

Great addition to Rice Canyon. Good for picnics and exercise, as well as softball and other games. Great starting place for walks and bike rides up and down Rice Canyon.

My girlfriends and I plan monthly get-togethers in San Diego. We do a variety of outings but it has been harder (since the Pandemic) to find fun, wholesome activities that everyone in our group enjoys. For August, we decided to check out Seven Mile Casino in Chula Vista because going to a casino is something we'd never done. A few of us were hesitant about gambling because none of us are 'seasoned' gamblers... But, I must say, our fears were quickly put to rest when we stepped into the Casino and made our way to a Cal Blackjack game. The dealers, staff, and other players were welcoming and easygoing, and one of my girlfriends started doing really well at 21. So we decided to try our hand at Texas Hold 'Em Poker and we had an absolute blast! Most of us did well but no one hit the jackpot - which we weren't expecting at all. We originally planned to go to dinner after gambling, but several of us ventured to Sammy's for a drink and they said the smells were amazing - so we decided to just eat at Sammy's. OMG, it was amazing! Not only was the food delicious. but the menu is super diverse and there was an option for everyone - including one of our friends who's vegan, and a couple of other gals who are gluten-free. It's rare to find a restaurant that has something for everyone, but Sammy's truly does! I recommend it to anyone wanting a healthy, hearty, yummy meal. We had so much fun in Chula Vista, that we all agreed to include Seven Mile Casino and Sammy's as regular destinations in our Girls Night Out. Thank you to the friendly staff and amazing chef!

This is the perfect place to walk around and be tranquil or for a nice picnic with yourself or others. I often like going to this place by myself and with friends. The surroundings are quiet, there is vegetation and running water coming down from the mountains. The scenery is not what you would expect, and you will be surprised and happy you drove out to visit.
