- Bing SSan Diego, CA11 contributionsJust came back from amazing Botswana. I joined Acacia Africa's Delta, Chobe group on its 6th day when it reached Victoria Falls from Pretoria and before it left Zimbabwe for Botswana. This review will cover only the last 7 days of the tour.
There were 7 of us (plus our driver/guide, Sam), consisting of a young couple from New York City, a group of 4 adults from Brisbane, Australia, and myself (from San Diego, California). From the very first day together, we congealed as a group, very much like a family on a road trip to somewhere exciting, bound to have fun.
Our guide, Sam, was the best ever. He was an open book and we enjoyed and appreciated his candor. This led to us doing the same as we learned of various cultural practices where we grew up. It cultivated a sense of camaraderie, familiarity, caring and concern for one another. We grew fond of one another, in spite of our inherent individual traits. We had some profound discussions because we accepted that we were all intelligent individuals. And this sentiment remained throughout the next 7 days in Botswana. In short, I would define our small group "perfect," which is unique because very few tour groups can be that due to diverse and sometimes conflicting, personalities. I know because I'm an avid traveler and have a healthy touring experience with groups. Also, prior to joining the Botswana group, I was with another that started from Cape Town, through the garden route all the way to Greater Kruger. There just wasn't any basis of comparison between these two experiences.
Sam made sure that we knew what we were doing at all times, and we were not exposing ourselves to danger. He was protective all the way. For example, he was willing to abandon his morning shower, for instance, wrap a towel and run out, just to stop me from exploring the bush around our last lodging. That would have been very embarrassing. Also, he delivered my dinner when I couldn't join the group due to a severe eye allergy, in spite of me telling him that I could fetch the food myself. Since I got lost twice returning to my lodge from dinner, he patiently walked me to my room to make sure I made it there. Because, you see, I'm 78 years old and my faculties, he surmised, were kind of defective due to age. Of course he was wrong on that aspect.
Our wildlife explorations were ample and thrilling, which included the Chobe National Park, sunset boat ride on Chobe river, bush walks, Khama Rhino Sanctuary. What took my soul, really was the Okavango Delta. Though we roughed it out there a bit (slept in a tent one night, were told to keep the tent zipped the entire night and that under no circumstances do we get out of the tent at all). Needless to say, I didn't get a good sleep that night. But it was a notable experience.
The delta gave me a very distinct impression of the waterways and being transported by the polers from one end to the other, the surrounding serenity was etherial, a slice of heaven. I took out my cell and typed up a poem to memorialize the almost sacred perception. I read the poem to the group after our last dinner together. Two nights prior, I think, I had the honor of reading 2 of my other poems to which they patiently listened.
Altogether, I believe I came out a better person with my communion with the delta and Botswana, thanks so much for the small family that adopted me and Sam who took really good care of us. They are all my best friends forever, having shared a very special time together.
Profound gratitude to Acacia Africa for a well-tailored tour that showcased the gifts of Botswana to mankind, and for assigning Sam to sentinel our small group. Heartfelt thanks to Sam for announcing that our group was the best among the 12 he had run for 2024. I told him he would NOT likely have a better group than us, ever.

From the calls in advance to go over everything and understand all of our wishes for the trip, then meeting us at the airport and introducing us to our most wonderful guide Joseph, then of course the adventure began and we went on the experience of a lifetime!
We were taken on daily tours of the bush, served great vegan meals every day, went on a dugout canoe ride, tried basket weaving and camped in the middle of the Moremi game reserve for multiple nights where we got to see these incredible animals living in their natural environment.
We saw lions, elephants, wild dogs, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest and more! Joseph is incredibly kind and knowledgable and was always teaching us things about the wildlife. It's hard to put into words, but these memories will stay with our family forever.

There isn't another company I would ever have chosen for this experience!!.. Absolutely everything was thought of for our 3 day/2 night safari. Our guide, William, has got to be the best guide in the entire area, he did everything to allow us the best experience, and he was above & beyond successful, we all truly, truly appreciated his efforts and his attentiveness to what we all hoped to get out of the experience, he literally made all of our personal hoped for sightings happen and then some! She planned our ten-day Botswana safari along with a stay in Cape Town and some touring around the city and the Cape Town Peninsula. All our transfers worked perfectly. Our hotel in Cape Town and camps in Botswana were wonderful with great service and gorgeous views. She is responsive, listens to what you want, and recommends experiences that fit your desires, budget, and interests. Ten-stars for Christelle! We couldn’t be happier and we recommend her without reservation.

The food was so good we all gained weight. The Service, the tents and the car were just perfect and Kemy managed everything in a very professional manner.

We had 9 days camping in Botswana with them and it couldn't have been more perfect. An amazing amount of animals close up in various locations. Our guide, Benjamin, was the best guide that we have had the pleasure to be with. His knowledge and ability to get us into the right positions for photography was excellent. We also had a photographic expert with us, Charlie Summers, who, I have to say was really good. We learnt a lot from him, but more than that, he was an affable and patient character. - Camper140242465363 contributionsAs a solo woman this was a fantastic way to travel, as I joined an existing group of two for the camping part of it, then travelled solo onto Kasane (Chobi National Park) and Victoria Falls where I stayed in hotels. Maria tailored the trip to meet my requirements and was efficient and courteous in answering my questions. The highlight for me was the camping as it is the best way to get up close with animals, but you must be prepared to 'rough it' a bit - camp bed and en-suite long drop toilet and bush shower (with hot water) - but all comfortable. The elephants came to us one night - I looked out my tent window and all I could see was elephant. The guide was dedicated in seeking out the animals and the three camp staff were efficient and friendly. The first night I slept on a mattress in the open at the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans - wow, what stars. Then two nights camping at a mobile camp in the Okavango Delta, a night R&R in Maun, then three nights camping in Moremi Game Reserve. The number and variety of animals and birds sighted exceeded my expectations. - Luca B9 contributionsWe booked our 5-day trip online through Safari Bookings and were later contacted directly by Walking Stick Travel Tours via email to clarify the details. This guided safari was the grand finale of our nearly three-week holiday in Southern Africa. During the first two weeks, our group of four had been traveling with a roof-top tent, exploring the region on our own.
Day 1: Arrival and Initial Safari Experience
Our private group was picked up from our hotel in the morning by Philimon, our guide. After a one-hour drive in an open-door safari vehicle, we arrived at the Wildlife Management Area of the Okavango Delta. There, we were handed over to a local team of four who are experts in conducting tours in the area.
We entered the Delta in two mokoros, traditional dugout canoes resembling long canoes, and were paddled for about an hour to our camp. Along the way, we encountered plenty of wildlife, including hippos, elephants, and numerous water birds. Upon arrival, we found the camp partially set up by the team.
Unfortunately, the first day had a minor drawback: we weren’t served a proper lunch. It wasn’t clear why, but it seemed to be a miscommunication between Walking Stick Travel and the local guides. As we later learned, Philimon typically leads these tours himself but had delegated this one due to the low water levels in his usual area during September.
In the late afternoon, we embarked on our first walking safari. Initially, we were skeptical, as walking safaris offer a much smaller range than vehicle safaris and animals are more likely to flee. However, the experience was far more immersive and rewarding. Spotting animals on foot felt thrilling and authentic, a stark contrast to the “zoo-like” feel of driving through national parks like Etosha in Namibia. Even smaller sightings, like red lechwe (gazelles) or birds, became fascinating.
The sense of vulnerability on foot—especially when approaching a pond with hippos, Africa’s most dangerous animal—was both exhilarating and humbling. Our knowledgeable guide, Rowan, shared insights that left us amazed after every walk.
Day 2: Extended Walk and Rare Wildlife Sightings
Our second day began with a three-hour walking safari, the longest Rowan had ever done (shorter options were available). We were incredibly fortunate to spot both a hyena and wild dogs—rare encounters. We also came across elephants, wildebeest, warthogs, hippos, giraffes, African eagles, and a variety of birds.
Rowan taught us fascinating details about the Delta’s ecosystem, including the sleeping habits of hippos, how elephant dung is broken down into soil by termites, and the essential role of aardvarks in creating burrows for other animals.
In the evening, we returned to the water in the mokoros to witness a breathtaking sunset, a serene end to an incredible day.
Day 3: Transfer to Khwai Reserve
This day brought our second minor issue: the guides didn’t bring enough drinking water. While we avoided dehydration by boiling water from the Delta, this was a significant oversight for a guided tour.
We departed the camp in the mokoros and met Philimon for the next leg of our journey: a 4-hour drive to Khwai Reserve. The ride in an open vehicle along a dusty, bumpy road in nearly 40°C heat was arduous, and we were relieved when it was finally over.
In the late afternoon, we went on an evening game drive and were rewarded with incredible sightings, including lions, elephants, buffalos, zebras, and many gazelles.
Day 4: Memorable Game Drives
On the fourth day, we enjoyed two extended game drives, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. The highlight of the afternoon drive was witnessing two hippos fighting, followed by our first leopard sighting of the trip. Philimon went above and beyond, even risking a reprimand from park authorities, to ensure we could see the elusive leopard as it emerged from the bushes.
Day 5: Departure
Our adventure ended with a transfer back to the airport.
Final Thoughts
Despite minor hiccups, this was an unforgettable experience. The food was excellent, and the guides were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Walking safaris in the Okavango Delta are a must-try for anyone visiting the region. They organised a tailor made 10 day trip for us starting in Moremi and travelling through Savuti , Kwhai, Chobe and ending in Victoria Falls. We stayed in a combination of premium camping and Bush Ways lodges. The camp sites were in beautiful settings and very comfortable. The lodges were lovely and all the staff were warm, hospitable and welcoming.
Moscow was our excellent guide, tracker and wildlife spotter. He was so knowledgeable and we enjoyed his fun, his professionalism and his great company throughout our safari. K.K, K.D and K.K2 were amazing and travelled with us setting up our camps, catering and making sure we had warm showers and welcome when we came back from our game drives.
The food was absolutely amazing - good variety , including homemade bread, stir fries, steaks, chicken, salads, vegetables and even deserts. It was well presented and served on white tablecloths under the stars. We even had a birthday chocolate cake made on the open fire. The team went above and beyond to make our camping experience a memorable and comfortable one.
We had the most incredible wildlife sightings that we have ever seen too. We loved our morning Amarula coffee stops and sundowners amongst the game in the most picturesque of settings. We went on a small boat trip on the Delta and Chobe River where we were up close to elephants and hippos.
We also went on a helicopter flip over the Delta which was an amazing experience - seeing the Delta waterways from above.
It was the most magical and unforgettable experience. It exceeded all our expectations and we can’t thank the Bush Ways team enough for this immersive experience. It was excellent in every aspect from start to finish, and really shows off the gem that Botswana Delta is. goers we were amazed at the number of different species and the numbers of each type. Among these we saw many antelopes ; elephants; lions; hippos; giraffes;
wild painted dogs; monkeys; zebras as well as many others. The food we were served each
day was excellent. We could not believe the bread and cake that was baked in the bush in a tin oven. The information given to us by Jack and company was great.
He tracked animals to find them for us and then positioned our vehicle for us'
to take pictures. All of our questions were answered in detail.
All in all a once in a lifetime experience made great by Jack and his team.
We would recommend Tony Mobile Safaris to anyone interested in taking one

But, back in the comfort of our urban home, editing through the photos, we are flooded with memories of awesome sightings. All the discomfort of the heat and bush toilets totally forgotten and only the enchanting experiences live on, forever ours to reminisce.
We booked the ‘Okavango Expeditions: Safari Authentic - Maun to Kasane Mobile Safari’ via an agent Cape Town, Verity Bester from Uyaphi.com. We flew into the Moremi on a small plane and were welcomed by our guide, Maikano Phale (Maiker) and his Land Cruiser. Off we went on the safari vehicle for 9 days of adventure.
During our time in the Moremi, Kwai Conservancy, Savuti and Chobe Riverfront we saw so much thanks to Maiker and his vast understanding of animal behaviour. He could anticipate their next moves, and could often steer us to be in the right place at the right time. From waiting for a Leopard to return to its abandoned feast, to ensuring we had the best view at a water-hole to witness predators, scavengers and prey all descend upon it simultaneously to drink. Maiker knew to return to sleeping wild dogs, just before they would wake up again, so we could bear witness to the very vocal and energetic interactions amongst the pack, as they enthusiastically greeted each other after their slumber, before heading off to drink and hunt.
Lucky for us, Maiker has a special interest in birds and could quickly spot and identify them, both visually and by their calls. Overall he was a fantastic guide with a patient and friendly disposition and we are immensely grateful to him for giving us a memorable experience.
Our gratitude also extends to the rest of the crew (MK, Sechaba, Chika, Goaba and Mobole). They were all lovely and kind and worked incredibly hard. Cooking and pitching tents in 40 degrees plus is no easy task. The food was tasty, more courses than we needed, drinks were always offered with a smile, the tents and beds were comfortable, we had enough water in the shower buckets to keep us clean and refreshed. On the night of my husband’s birthday, all the crew came to the dinner table singing harmoniously with their deep voices and presented him with a delicious birthday cake. It was very special, so a big thank you to the guys. Oh and I want that lemon sponge cake recipe please!

The arrangements were easy and they were very clear about what to expect. Mark worked with me to design the itinerary we wanted. The price was good for what was basically a private safari. We had a cook, a driver/guide and a general helper. They were all good at what they did but also fun and flexible. They took very good care of us. We really enjoyed our time with them.
Camping was comfy: a stand-up tent, cots with clean, newish bedding, more blankets than we needed (it was pretty hot until the rain started). The bathroom was rustic but functional. We camped in 4 different locations so as to see more different habitats. Every time we changed sites, the guys would break down, pack up and set up at the new one, all while we were out on safari or sitting in our chairs watching (honestly, we sometimes felt guilty). The food was plentiful and very delicious, especially because Shine was cooking over a campfire.
The wildlife and the birds were everything we hoped for. Kem asked us at the beginning what we wanted to see and tried to give us the experience we were looking for. He knew where to find water which seemed to be the best places to see wildlife, and 3 of our camps were very close to water. Many nights we heard the hippos walking past our tent. And one day a pack of wild dogs ran through our campsite chasing impala. We were able to watch them hunt and even catch prey.
Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend this company. Their knowledge of, and passion for, the natural environment was clear from Day One. This was our first visit to Africa and we were not sure what we were going to experience. Camping in the wild gave us the opportunity to see animals big and small up close and away from large groups of people. Words cannot describe what it is like to see some of the animals you've read about or watch in documentaries in their natural habitat for the first time. This was an experience beyond our usual day to day lives but the briefings and guidance we received from the team made us feel safe during our time in the bush. We will never forget this. Our tent was very comfortable and large enough for a 185 cm tall person to stand up in and we appreciated the private toilet facilities attached to the back of the tent. Mikey, our Botswanan Master Chef, consistently produced wonderful meals in the bush kitchen and we loved sitting around the bush television at night, hearing the sounds of animals roaming around. We allowed 12 days to visit Magkadikgadi, Moremi and Chobe National Parks and Khwai Concession. All very different locations and offering wonderful wildlife experiences. Be aware that the driving time between Maun and some of these locations takes longer than it looks on a map due to the condition of the roads so if you want to visit them all, allow plenty of time. Also be prepared to be flexible as you are travelling in remote places and things don't always go to plan. We enjoyed this trip so much that we hope to do another one in the not-too-distant future. We saw all the animals we expected plus more (ex. lot of lions). Our guide was a master chef plus had eagle eyes (ex. With his bare eyes he spotted a cheetah under a tree 500m away. Impressive!).
