Go in the wet seasons when you can go in a mokoro canoe down the canals the elephants create by walking through the tall grasses. Amazing place to be.

Just came back from amazing Botswana. I joined Acacia Africa's Delta, Chobe group on its 6th day when it reached Victoria Falls from Pretoria and before it left Zimbabwe for Botswana. This review will cover only the last 7 days of the tour.

There were 7 of us (plus our driver/guide, Sam), consisting of a young couple from New York City, a group of 4 adults from Brisbane, Australia, and myself (from San Diego, California). From the very first day together, we congealed as a group, very much like a family on a road trip to somewhere exciting, bound to have fun.

Our guide, Sam, was the best ever. He was an open book and we enjoyed and appreciated his candor. This led to us doing the same as we learned of various cultural practices where we grew up. It cultivated a sense of camaraderie, familiarity, caring and concern for one another. We grew fond of one another, in spite of our inherent individual traits. We had some profound discussions because we accepted that we were all intelligent individuals. And this sentiment remained throughout the next 7 days in Botswana. In short, I would define our small group "perfect," which is unique because very few tour groups can be that due to diverse and sometimes conflicting, personalities. I know because I'm an avid traveler and have a healthy touring experience with groups. Also, prior to joining the Botswana group, I was with another that started from Cape Town, through the garden route all the way to Greater Kruger. There just wasn't any basis of comparison between these two experiences.

Sam made sure that we knew what we were doing at all times, and we were not exposing ourselves to danger. He was protective all the way. For example, he was willing to abandon his morning shower, for instance, wrap a towel and run out, just to stop me from exploring the bush around our last lodging. That would have been very embarrassing. Also, he delivered my dinner when I couldn't join the group due to a severe eye allergy, in spite of me telling him that I could fetch the food myself. Since I got lost twice returning to my lodge from dinner, he patiently walked me to my room to make sure I made it there. Because, you see, I'm 78 years old and my faculties, he surmised, were kind of defective due to age. Of course he was wrong on that aspect.

Our wildlife explorations were ample and thrilling, which included the Chobe National Park, sunset boat ride on Chobe river, bush walks, Khama Rhino Sanctuary. What took my soul, really was the Okavango Delta. Though we roughed it out there a bit (slept in a tent one night, were told to keep the tent zipped the entire night and that under no circumstances do we get out of the tent at all). Needless to say, I didn't get a good sleep that night. But it was a notable experience.

The delta gave me a very distinct impression of the waterways and being transported by the polers from one end to the other, the surrounding serenity was etherial, a slice of heaven. I took out my cell and typed up a poem to memorialize the almost sacred perception. I read the poem to the group after our last dinner together. Two nights prior, I think, I had the honor of reading 2 of my other poems to which they patiently listened.

Altogether, I believe I came out a better person with my communion with the delta and Botswana, thanks so much for the small family that adopted me and Sam who took really good care of us. They are all my best friends forever, having shared a very special time together.

Profound gratitude to Acacia Africa for a well-tailored tour that showcased the gifts of Botswana to mankind, and for assigning Sam to sentinel our small group. Heartfelt thanks to Sam for announcing that our group was the best among the 12 he had run for 2024. I told him he would NOT likely have a better group than us, ever.

Cheers to Acacia Africa and Sam.

Helene and her team really looked after us and paid attention to every detail to make sure our trip was unforgettable.

From the calls in advance to go over everything and understand all of our wishes for the trip, then meeting us at the airport and introducing us to our most wonderful guide Joseph, then of course the adventure began and we went on the experience of a lifetime!

We were taken on daily tours of the bush, served great vegan meals every day, went on a dugout canoe ride, tried basket weaving and camped in the middle of the Moremi game reserve for multiple nights where we got to see these incredible animals living in their natural environment.

We saw lions, elephants, wild dogs, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest and more! Joseph is incredibly kind and knowledgable and was always teaching us things about the wildlife. It's hard to put into words, but these memories will stay with our family forever.

Thank you Helene, David, Joseph and team!

Absolutely wonderful. Animals, animals and more animals. Did a mobile camping safari with a local guide from Botswana who looked after us really well. The photos say everything, can't wait to go again. AND added bonus that Botswana is one of the safest African countries.

Only praise for this camp. A lovely atmosphere, especially thanks to manager Lizzy and all the other staff members. The room is so comfortable, open, light, we love it over here. The food was good, and to sit after dinner at the fireplace, it’s always special.

With guide Kelvin and tracker JD, we had the most incredible, wild game drives, but also lots of fun, great conversations with Kelvin at dinner table…(such a smart guy), completely our thing.

We love discovering new places, and it's great when the guide and tracker also enjoy that. It’s beautiful when you go into areas they’ve never been to before…and impressive how they always manage to find their way back…thankfully…hahaha.

We saw a lot general games animals, Wild life was good, we specifically are coming for the wild dogs, and we were so lucky to spent time with them.

    Beautiful days ❤️

My visit largely exceeded my expectations. From the information and orientation I got from Lelobu Safaris (Joshua) to the administrative arrangements prior to the trip, the connection and support in Maun, and stay at the camp and safaris, everything was seamless, efficient, and successful. The safaris were superb with close views of lions, giraffes, zebras, a leopard, elephants, crocodiles, hippos, wild dogs, etc. I guess we were lucky because safaris could be unpredictable, but the abundance of fauna in the area makes it relatively more likely that you will see interesting things. Camp Khwai has an excellent location, with easy access to the Moremi reserve. You can see many animals right in front of the camp facilities. The rooms are very comfortable and clean and the food is great. And the best of all was its friendly and helpful staff. I don't know other places in the Okavango Delta but I would definitely recommend this camp and Lelobu Safaris. I had an unforgettable experience.

Amazing!!!...from meeting the owner, our wonderful guide, William, as well as Olie & Digs (apologize if misspelled). There isn't another company I would ever have chosen for this experience!!.. Absolutely everything was thought of for our 3 day/2 night safari. Our guide, William, has got to be the best guide in the entire area, he did everything to allow us the best experience, and he was above & beyond successful, we all truly, truly appreciated his efforts and his attentiveness to what we all hoped to get out of the experience, he literally made all of our personal hoped for sightings happen and then some! Food was plentiful and just amazing, I adored Olie & Digs and hope this reaches them, just to express how much I enjoyed meeting them, and appreciate how very well they took care of us and would choose them a hundred times over, thank you....thank you.....wanting to go on a safari???..THIS is the one, Temogo is absolutely the right choice, thank you so very much for having us;-)

My wife and I just returned from our first "safari" trip to Botswana (July, 2024). We used Desert & Delta to plan the entire trip which included three camps (Leroo La Tau, Camp Okavango and Savute Safari Lodge) in Botwana as well as a visit to Victoria Falls. Our reservation host, Johann Botha, was excellent in his advice on when to go and helped put the whole trip together. Everything went so well that there was nary a hiccup in any of our itinerary from the time we arrived to our departure from Johannesburg. The staff at each camp was very attentive and so friendly. We really liked and so appreciated the singing and dancing by the staff at each location at arrival and at dinner. The facilities were first rate and obviously Savute was just fantastic having been just renovated. The food was delicious with a diverse selection that were all very good - the breads were especially delicious. We so enjoyed the views from the balconies at each camp with many pics and movies from these alone. And our guides were just fantastic as they were always aware of our safety and very friendly. The most amazing thing about them was that each guide answered ALL of our questions on the animals and terrain that we were viewing - no hesitation or "I'll get back to you." They were all great in making sure that we got memorable pictures and movies to help us remember the trip. There were so, so many highlights of animal encounters that we had. We met some very interesting and friendly fellow campers which was the cherry on the sundae! Several veteran travelers confirmed that we visited at a great time to view the animals. And the two overnights in the bush - at Leroo La Tau and Okavango - were very special with the night on the Pans being the better of the two. Our visit at the end to Victoria Falls was a great way to complete our visit to Africa.
In summary we are so glad that we chose Desert & Delta and had Johann specifically put our trip together. This was probably the best trip that we have ever taken and certainly in the top two or three. Everything was so seamless with absolutely no glitches. It was the trip of a lifetime.

Wow! I’ve made two visits to African Guide Academy and Kwapa training camp to learn about the wonder that is the Okavango Delta with the best trainers - JC and Sevara. I did the Nature Guide course in 2022 and two weeks of the Trails Guide course this year.

I researched a lot of options before choosing AGA. The camp is on the edge of the Delta and the only other vehicles you will see belong to AGA. It’s remote - no fences to be seen and there’s plenty of wildlife in and around camp. The staff are exceptional, the meals delicious, the tents comfortable. There is nothing finer than waking up to the dawn chorus or wondering what is snuffling past your tent at 2 am!

This year we had phenomenal elephant encounters on foot, along with buffalo. In the two weeks that I was there we also tracked lions and another group had leopard encounters. It was thrilling to learn about approaching PDAs ( that’s Potentially Dangerous Animals) And being with a group of like minded people, those as passionate about wildlife as I am and as eager to learn, meant that we soon felt like old friends.

AGA sponsors a local guide with each course. About half of our group of ten were doing the course for the BQA or FGASA qualifications, the others for enrichment.

I also love that AGA allows one to split the course if one has time constraints. I plan on going back for another two weeks to finish Trails Guide. It truly is a life changing experience

Pure magic. I am trying to decide what I loved best. Of course the unique animals and birds – Pat is an exemplary birder – but I also very much enjoyed the coffee mornings, and the evenings around the fire. Briefings, or catch-ups of the day. Pat’s grandmother's family live at the top of the Delta so Pat has the knowledge (and experience) to place the whole ecological system into perspective.

This is a Small gallery on the outside of Maun. We went by taxi from our hotel. The Gallerist/Founder is lovely and welcoming. She has some of her own work and that of others which was interesting. I bought an upcycled bottle with painted African patterns.
