Wow, this beach is stunningly beautiful. We walked the whole length which took 2 hours. Maybe 50 people on the whole beach? Golden sands & with very little commercial development.

We decided to do a bit of bird watching at the hide built on one of the lakes.
Follow the directions to the office if using Google maps!
Calm & a great place to chill for a few hours!

    Fantastic Experience!

The horses are incredibly well cared for and Amanda is a fantastic guide. The horses are absolutely stunning, and this is a definite highlight of our honeymoon.
Safety is the number one priority for both the horses and the rider, particularly with the recent poor weather.
We arrived a little early and Amanda made us feel so welcome, we even got to help out the tack on the horses.
We would absolutely recommend this trip!

The Touw river lagoon at Wilderness is separated from the ocean by a barrier peninsula. Due to its open connection with the ocean the water is brackish (slightly salty), though this depends also on the waterlevels in the river. There is an abundance of fish (often unique species adapted to the estuary milieu). Birdlife is also interesting to observe.

There is a boardwalk along part of the lagoon used by hikers, but also fishermen. During my stay the water levels in the estuary were low and you could wade across. Overall the lagoon area is a quiet and peaceful area. Great to enjoy nature.

Had an incredible hike with Mark and Amanda.
Highly recommend their personalised trails as well as their regular trail along the coast of the garden route. Mark shares his vast knowledge of flora and fauna of the area while hiking through breathtaking scenery.

Richard was a great guide on the E bike tour. Kept us engaged with the history of the Wilderness, and I wouldn't have asked for a better guide. His dad jokes also grew on me, lol. The scenic ride was enjoyed thoroughly. Richard truly enjoys what he does, and his passion emanates. Very polite young man.

An hour's kayak trip to the waterfall and down the river towards the sea and back was really relaxing. The waterfall is definitely worth the trip and inaccessible without a boat. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The views were indeed amazing and we had exceptional weather. We were very disappointed that the road to the old Kaaimans bridge was closed due to water damage, but my kids loved rowing in the Kaaimans river, which flows underneath the new bridge on the N2. There is a lovely little restaurant / bar where I could sit with my granddaughter - chasing the tame ducks around. Really lovely place for a family outing. We also enjoyed the Half Collared Kingfisher trail. Wear your swimsuit underneath and take a swim in the waterfall pool at the end of the trail - the water is ice cold and delicious! We took the unmaintained route over the mountain to Hoekwil on the return trip (with an 18 month baby on her Dad's back) - I found it tough (64), but it was well worth the sweat and tears, since one emerges on the main rd in Hoekwil, right across a lovely little diner! A visit to the Berry farm is also a lovely family outing with lots of activities for children and even toddlers.
All in all - we'll definitely visit again!

Spectacular views at Dolphin Point down out to sea and over to Wilderness beach. Easily found on the road from Wilderness to George.

There are no more Kaaiman (a species of monitor lizards) in the river. So it is safe to swim, where possible or kayak, particularly at a point where the river becomes wider and its mouth finds the ocean. The Kaaiman river is one of many that is meandering through the Cape Fold Mountains south of South Africa's central plateau. Some of the gorges it formed are of spectacular beauty. In the past a formidable obstacle for both indigenous people as well as the European settlers. The latter eventually managed to build stable bridges. The railway bridge (now defunct) near George is one them, meanwhile a historic attraction.

Good hiking options northwest of Wilderness.

Wew came here following having seem these paintings at Dune Beach House and were blown away by the vibrancy and colour. The lady serving us could not have been more patient and we spent 45 minutes or so choosing eventually 3 pictures which she rolled into a tube to come back to the UK with us.
