- hbhakhRoanoke, VA2,268 contributionsWe walked through Pelourinho while visiting on a cruise ship. It's an interesting area with quite a few shops and restaurants......and a few nice views. There was some street music, which may have been related to Carnaval. We felt relatively safe in the area.Written February 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- marileymaiaRio de Janeiro, RJ40 contributionsLocated in the Largo Cruzeiro square, the Church and Convent of São Francisco is the greatest jewel of Baroque architecture in Brazil. Elected one of the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Origin in the World, it attracts visitors from all origins, including architects and art students. Breathtaking! I recommend it to all visitors to Salvador.Written March 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- MelBr75Curitiba, PR1,755 contributionsThis used to be the house of Jorge Amado and Zelia Gatai, both great and world known writers. It’s very well preserved and it’s collection is beautifully displayed. It’s a must see!Written January 8, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Mostly contemporary artists (lots of photos). The rest was closed. There is also a café and a art cinema. The location is great, in old buildings on the seashore.Written November 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lucassajSanto Antonio De Jesus, BA1 contributionSalvador is a historic city and has many places to visit. If you want to know a little about Salvador's history, you can visit the Pelourinho or if you like beach, you can visit Flamengo beach. But if you like to buy many things or to watch movies, you can visit a mall.
My favorite is Salvador Mall, built in 2007 and expanded in 2009. After expansion work, Salvador Mall has become the largest in the state of Bahia. It has many stores and some movie theaters. I like this place because it's clean, well illuminated and well ar conditioned.
Salvador Mall is the ideal place if you didn't plan anything for your weekend or to visit some day.Written November 21, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Like almost everything else on Feb. 26th, it was closed as people recovered from Carnaval.Written May 14, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - evilcomeevil_go_goSeattle, WA85 contributionsGreat photo opportunity. Iconic Salvador scenery. Other reviewers have remarked that parking can be difficult but honestly, I never have that problem; I just pay a few reais to the attendant working nearby and go on with my day. There's normally someone leaving and I can snag their spot. (I also rarely if ever go on weekends).
There's a bar where you can grab a drink, as well as a drink stand (they accept cash & Pix!) - I highly recommend grabbing a caldo de cana and watching the sunset from here.Written August 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The feature translation of his book in more than a hundred languages, a rich collection of correspondence, and a tremendous amount of written appraisals of his work. Amado is by far the most famous Brazilian writer and there are 100s theses and dissertations on his work. You can find the biographies written about his life. But again, it’s great to research!Written February 26, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Edward D.Lucena, PB3,002 contributionsForte de Santo Antonio da Barra is a fort located in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. It was constructed to guard the entrance to the Bay of All Saints (Bahia de todos os Santos), during the time of the Portuguese Empire. The first Portuguese fortification erected in Bahia was likely built in 1501, on the same area now occupied by the Forte de Santo Antônio da Barra. The foundation stone of that first fortification was placed in an area called Ponta do Padrão, now known as the Largo do Farol da Barra, the broad public square in front of the fort. The fort also houses the 22 meter (72 ft)-high Barra Lighthouse and the Nautical Museum of Bahia. The Santo Antônio da Barra Fort is protected as a historic structure by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage.Written June 1, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
