Was wonderful and very humbling. On the shoulders of giants. The people that dedicated and gave their lives for the betterment of our country was too much to take.

On our tour at Arlington National Cemetery, we went to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This was a deeply moving experience—the watch and Changing Of The Guard Ceremony is a solemn tribute to those who died in wars without individual recognition. The tomb is guarded by uniformed soldiers who have gone through rigorous qualification and training They perform very precise procedures, which are continuous 24/7. The changing of the guard takes place every ½ hour in the summer and 1 hr in the winter during the time the cemetery is open to the public. In the night time it is every 2 hours. The soldiers have behavioral and honor standards. This was a honor to witness the watch and the Changing of the Guard and brought to remembrance all the heroes who have died protecting our freedoms. Definitely a MUST experience.

On our US History Tour, we went to the Marines War Memorial, after dark on our way to our hotel. It features the statue of the flag-raising at Iwo Jima, on a large, heroic scale. Our guide gave us history and background of what went before and after this event in World War II. It was an inspirational and moving experience to walk around and observe the artist’s skill in depicting the emotion of the moment. This is located at the north end of Arlington National Cemetery, so could easily be visited on a visit to the cemetery.

Glad we stopped at this memorial, which is not often included in a DC itinerary. The artists’ concept for memorializing those that lost their lives to the evil terrorists is quite interesting.

I am also glad to have seen the Pentagon up close. While not architecturally interesting, its size is memorable.

It gets 5 stars just because it is historic and while being at Arlington National Cemetery you can’t help but feel emotional when viewing it.

Nothing spectacular but worth every step you take to get to see it.

This theater is amazing! We always go to see the latest shows and the performances are always outstanding! We just recently saw ragtime and it was absolutely fabulous! The theater also has the nicest staff! Would recommend seeing a show here!

Lovely trail around the DCA airport. Find a spot by the water and watch the airplanes take off over two different runways

One of our stops in the Arlington National Cemetery was the beautiful Arlington House, which had been owned by General Robert E. Lee before the Civil War. The home has been restored as a memorial to General Lee. It stand on the top of a hill in the cemetery, overlooking the cemetery as well as providing stunning views of the city of Washington DC. We went on a tour inside the home, which was interesting and contained portrayals of life there in the middle 1800s. This would be of interest to anyone that enjoys this type of history, and is an added historical aspect of the cemetery itself.

From a distance, this didn't seem like it would be that interesting, but being there really makes a difference. The sculptures, gracefully arcing up into the wild blue yonder make a fine testament to our Air Force. Location and orientation are very good, providing an excellent setting with nice surroundings.

After stopping at the Visitors Center, we took the short walk here. We were warmly greeted by Suzanne (she is a Veteran), and given an overview of what is presented. There are presentations from various periods, and some have videos available to be seen. Depending on your timeframe, you can spend as much time as you like. Please if you visit, take the elevator to the rooftop the views surprisingly nice.

We were there on April 16, 2024 and it was open. The web site is not working at this time. The entrance is directly across from McDonalds in a courtyard area.
We spoke to the desk person and she said the building has been purchased and the attraction may only be open through the summer. The new management has not decided if they will continue with the attraction.

We experienced an incredible view of the DC area and I highly recommend this site.
    The hours were listed as

Sun to Sat 10:00 to 4:00 with early closing at noon on Wed.

Very pleasant and large shopping mall set over 4 levels. Good that they've got seating in the alleys for men to sit while waiting for their wife to shop! Great food court too with lots of choices
