My AirBnB in Makati was about a 10 minute walk from the Hulo Terminal so I thought the ferry would be an interesting & inexpensive way to get to Intramuros, Chinatown, etc. And it was.... almost. The fare was 30P and I waited about 10 minutes for the next ferry.
During the ride I asked if I could go to the open bow for pictures and the captain(?) said OK. There were better views of the river and a bit of a breeze compared to the cabin which was a bit stuffy. There was not as much traffic on the river as I expected but there was enough to make the trip interesting.
For some reason that wasn't explained or announced, the boat's last stop was Santa Ana which is less than half way to Intramuros. The Santa Ana terminal wasn't as "formal" as the Hulo Terminal and the neighborhood looked a little poorer.
So I got off as directed and started following the other passengers. Less than 100 yards/meters away was (what I now know to be) the Santa Ana market which was a nice exposure to the local culture at a lower economic strata compared to the richer Makati CBD. After walking around the market I wasn't sure how to get to Intramuros so I walked up to a motor-trike driver parked in an alley and said Intramuros? He said "how much?" which was not the response I expected so to avoid prolonged back&forth I said 300 pesos (I could surely have done it for much less than that)... and off we went.

I traveled on the light rail about four times. The first time was fine. By the time we got to the third time we were all seated when we were told the train needed to be taken out of service. The train was packed. Also people who were waiting to take the train some were standing on the stairs waiting to come down to the platform. It's very overcrowded. I thought I had seen my share of overcrowded trains with the NYC subway. But Manila takes the prize.

When we came off the first train we lost our seats. The second train showed up in under 10 minutes this was on a Saturday. Eventually we got on but one person in my party had to stand. The saving grace the train is air conditioned. To get up to the train you need to be physically fit. I saw an elevator in a couple of the stations. But everyone can't use that. So prepare for a good workout. And every station you have to present to security for a bag check or a physical check for weapons. Some stations have an x-ray machine which makes movement faster. I keep telling myself this could never work in NYC. In NYC a federal judge allowed the police to do random checks or checks of backpacks. But not everyone has to go through a security check here. Also they have much fewer stations than the NYC transit system so they could pull that off putting police or security at every station.

I have to say people have a lot of patience there. One time my friend and I were going to take the train at the Pedro Gil station. But when I saw the long line outside the station waiting to go through security I told her let's walk. We needed to get to United Nations, the next station which was like a 10-minute walk. I couldn't see myself rushing to catch a train in Brooklyn and had to stand in a long time to get inside the subway. My friend came to meet me for breakfast during the week the train is full including Saturday. Sunday was the only day of respite. She said at least two trains passed her. She had to squeeze in on the third or miss breakfast. Such is life in metro Manila.

I did a video on this that I posted on my YouTube channel.

The transfer from Manila to Puerto Galera was seamless. I took a Grab (formerly Uber) from the airport to the CityState Tower Hotel and bought a round-trip ticket to Puerto Galera. The comfortable, air-conditioned bus left on time and took me to the ferry at Batangas. There is a new air-conditioned ferry terminal to wait in. When I arrived in Puerto Galera, there was a Tuk-Tuk driver (which Si-Kat arranged) to take me to my resort. The entire process went smoothly and was very reasonably priced.

We travelled Bohol to Cebu via 2go Travel.

2GO Travel ferry provides an average travel experience, earning a rating of 3 out of 5 stars. The ferry journey offered a decent mode of transportation, but it didn't particularly stand out. While the facilities were satisfactory, the overall comfort level fell short of expectations.

My friends and I wanted to tour the Intramuros complex but didn’t want to use the horse drawn carriages. We happened upon this option at the Bay Leaf Hotel
Lobby. The cost was 1200 pesos for 1.5 hours of touring the area.

Our guide, Archie, was absolutely wonderful, and took us to the major highlights in the area and explained all the history that happened there. He also took pictures for my friends and I.

This is a great option to tour in an eco and animal friendly way, and we had a fabulous time. (Thanks Archie!)

just asked a question on FB the other day(because of my experience 2 years ago that UBE don't operate in terminal 2 of NAIA after 19:00) whether UBE EXPRESS PREMIUM AIRPORT SERVICE FOLLOW their advertised hours of operation(24 hours everyday in their grand prix route)and their response is they operate 24 hours per day but hourly(probably during evening and night hours as they only mentioned hourly); i hope they operate in all terminals of NAIA 24 hours everyday. do they really need the presence of dispatchers who collect fares during odd hours?i guess management don't trust their drivers collecting fares?

The WOOLA agency gave us complete satisfaction for the organization of our trip in July 2023. Juan, his boss, takes great care of us, both in preparing for the trip and for the smooth running of the vacation. Three of us went as a family to discover part of the Philippines and visit three islands. The island of Siquijor to start then the island of Bohol and that of El Nido to follow before our quick stay in Manila. The choice of hotels corresponded perfectly to our expectations and the organization of activities too. Thanks to Juan and his team for their kindness and professionalism
I highly recommend this agency for Filipinnes. A french family.

Station is very tight in space. Suggest that you buy ticket ahead of time in their office since they do it manually. See photo for sched of trips.

I was lucky enough to find this company to help plan the Bohol leg of my first ever visit to the Philippines. They organised my domestic flights, airport transfers on Bohol, and I booked into their day tour called "Bohol Countryside & Loboc River Cruise Shared Tour with Lunch & Transfers from Tagbilaran or Panglao". It's an absolute must! It was a small group tour (3 passengers), and our driver Alex was knowledgeable, friendly, flexible, and even threw in an extra site or two. An absute must for anyone visiting Bohol.

My flights, transfers and tour all went smoothly, and were very cheap by Western standards. When I visit the Philippines again in the future, this will be the first company I contact to help me plan again. The best email communication and the best quality services.

    I highly recommend them.

Lovely car and really comfortable over some challenging roads. Our driver Anthony was excellent - very polite and attentive and good company. Without being asked between meetings would trace out the voyage to the next meeting. Would thoroughly recommend Arnold and his team.

In this point of the CV19 pandemic the requirements for traveling to Ilocos has loosened up a bit. Nonetheless, even a month before the downgrade, office staff will assist you in traversing the process in order to get a bus ticket and the gov't health requirements (then). Bus is well maintained, hopefully they keep it that way forever.
