- Dan LBunbury, Australia8,887 contributionsReturning to our tour bus and noticed this series of plaques in a small plaza on Santa Lucia Street, each featuring an effigy of past presidents, commencing with Aguinaldo through to Duterte. Great informative concept for locals and tourists alike but degraded by the neglect of the site. Perhaps a relocation to Rizal Park or similar would serve better.Written December 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NinoLeeZhongPingMakati, Philippines405 contributionsOnce was a decrepit place not fit to honor Andres Bonifacio is now a clean space for humans to roam around and admire the mural to the national hero. Great place to be hear early mornings or at weekends when traffic and pollution (noise and vehicle fumes) isn't a bother. #RPWritten November 28, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan LBunbury, Australia8,887 contributionsSometimes a traffic jam has its rewards, on this occasion our tour bus was halted almost alongside the Anda Monument, etiquette at a roundabout differs between countries. The monument is in the form of a pedestal upon which stands an obelisk topped by the "Morning Star". It honours Simon de Anda y Salazar, Spanish Governor-General in the Philippines 1770 - 1776. He is regarded as one Spaniard in high office who fought for justice and improvements in the deplorable conditions being experienced by the great majority of Filipinos. In 1871, 95 years after his death a monument was erected in his honour, not for his humanity, but in recognition of his resistance to British forces in 1762. The monument was damaged during WW11, restored and relocated to its present position in the roundabout. In 2020, the Anda Circle was upgraded, also the monument, a fountain encircles the monument.Written December 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan LBunbury, Australia8,887 contributionsThis is a monument of two parts, the Soul Wave Monument and the Filipino-Korean Soldier Monument. Soul Waves was inaugurated in 2010 by the Korean community in the Philippines as a memorial to those Koreans that lost their lives in the WW11 conflict. It also symbolises the shores of both countries and the joint efforts of both to protect their shores. The Filipino Korean Soldier Monument is a more traditional type honouring Filipino soldiers who fought alongside Korean soldiers during the Korean War.Written December 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
