Originally, I was going to pass on the gardens but it came included with the castle so I decided to come. I am glad I visited the garden because it was beautiful and there were amazing views of the castle. I was here during the week and had the garden to myself. The grounds are nice and easy to walk around. The buildings and ponds here were all so beautiful. If you have doubts of visiting the gardens, I would say, just go, it is worth it!

Small museum located in Kurobe Square - 10 minutes walk from station.
Displays showcase the Hikiyama Matsuri which takes place in April, highlighting the role children play in the performance. Highlight is the two large mikoshi on display (similar to ones on display in Hida Takayama).
No English descriptions, however it's easy to understand the displays.
    ¥600 admission, allow 30-40 minutes. 2 storeys.

Umaya, stable, is located near Sawaguchi Gate. From the back side, it is unnoticeable. But if you go inside, you can understand how this building was used before. The entrance is free.

It is the old community hall of the city so it is easy accessible. There are 2 (or 3?) restaurants / pubs there, with an assembly hall on the top floor. If you like to look into the details of a historic building, you will find this well converted building interesting. Otherwise, it may not be your cup of tea.

This passage links between Kannondo hall and Chikubushima Shrine. The woods of this corridor used to be a part of Hideyoshi’s ship, so it is called Funaroka, a corridor of ship.
