A gorgeous garden. Unlike most Japanese gardens that are designed to be enjoyed at fixed points, this garden is meant to be admired while walking (迴遊式花園 wandelgarten ~ walking garden). Actually, this is the character of most gardens around the world, but it is relatively rare in Japan.

It wasn't until visited this place that I learned that "Kenroku" ( Six attributes - a combination of six characteristics that are difficult to appear at the same time) originated from a poem by Li Gefei (李格非), a poet of the Song Dynasty in China. ……. and He was father of the very outstanding poetess Li Qingzhao (李清照).

The garden is carefully designed and maintained. It is worth a visit if you have time, but in my opinion, it's not a must-see.

Incredibly cool museum with lots of artifacts and a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. You can even throw Shuriken! It's a fascinating place, and I highly recommend it!

This is a nice place to go to watch the market people working. I was surprised to see “no photos” at at least one booth, which I really don’t understand. Not every one had this sign up.

The smell of seafood is powerful (frankly, I like it!!!) but if you don’t, skip this market.

There are a few restaurants that seemed touristy, but also some authentic. I ate in one and found it to be delicious.

Note. The market starts closing and cleaning around 5:00p, but it’s also not crowded at all at that time.

A beautiful traditional quarter lined with old buildings and lots of shops. Be prepared for a lot of tourists, though.

In Nov 2023 the TeamLab planet had a temporary show that was spectacular. As you roamed the outside of the castle the show was projected on several walls. Very unique

Lovely enclosed gardens and water features viewable from wooden decking in this typical ancient Japanese dwelling. Very interesting.

Utterly beautiful structure. Spacious and airy. Tidy and clean with practical signage. Light years ahead of railway stations in the UK which are still struggling from the move away from the dirty days coal-fired steam.

A lovely shrine with a cute little garden and some nice statues. There weren't too many other people visiting and it felt like a great escape from busy Kanazawa.

An attractive area which was a former samurai district with beautiful buildings. It seems to be a bit hidden away, there were hardly any other people visiting.

I absolutely adored this little out-of-the-way museum. I was fascinated by online photos for a long time and had always wanted to visit, but my time in Kanazawa was always too short for a visit during my previous trips. I finally had time this Feb 2023 and I was so glad I made it.

It's a very small museum, and you can't take photos inside the halls, but once you get out to the "pond" outside, you can take as much photos as you like. As for me, since I visited during a weekday morning, there wasn't any other visitors around. I sat outside staring at the waters for quite a long time. It's really zen and peaceful, I sat there contemplating and reflecting on some of my life moments without even noticing time passing by as there's no distractions at all.

This is not a museum where one would revisit, but I certainly would!

Since we couldn't call in advance, we decided to head to the Temple and see if any spots were still available on some tour. Lucky for us we could join a tour 10 minutes later. As we don't speak any Japanese, they handed us a booklet in English and our guide made sure to always tell us which page to read at a certain spot (although it's very clear thanks to the pictures next to the text). The written text seemed to correspond exactly to what the guide was telling in Japanese so it didn't feel like we were missing out. The tour lasts about 40min. The visit itself was very interesting and fun. Certainly worth a visit.

We went here as we were in Kanazawa and it was supposedly a must see. Wasn’t very impressed with the art, definitely saw much better installations in Naoshima and Teshima. There were a lot of digital installations, a lot of youngsters in the Museum, so maybe that’s what the kids want. I was a bit disappointed with it, but it was packed.
