I took the 6:05AM HSR from Taichung to Taoyuan and arrived around 5:30AM at the station via Uber. I thought I would need a little time to collect my ticket and get to the gate. I over estimated the amount of time needed.

First the station doesn’t open until 5:40AM so we all waited outside. There was sufficient roof coverage protecting us from the downpour.

Once the doors opened we walked to the ticketing counters. You had to queue by the type of ticket: advance, corporate, assistance needed or day of purchase. The ticket counter opened about five minutes later. There also were lots of terminals if one did not want to wait.

No stores or restaurants were open at this hour.

The next step was to select the gate to enter. The station has a large central area to accommodate lots of people. Overhead display listed all the trains and track numbers. Depending on your car number you pick the gate to enter. Once inside the tracks are upstairs, just double-check your direction of travel to pick the correct escalator.

I liked this HSR station the best.

Easily accessible with buses from taichung. We managed to catch the sunset. You can (recommended) dip your feet into the waters at the end of the pier, soft sand and clear waters. Must visit!

I have passed by here many times recently but never actually went into it. Recently my friend took me there and it was a great day spend! You could really enjoy some fantastic local, Korean and Japanese shows but maybe there are not many these days because of covid. but still anyone could check the upcoming program through their website and a visit is must if you have any interest in theatre!

This was a large sprawling museum filled with modern Taiwanese art by local artists. Admission was free and photos allowed as long as your flash was turned off. Larger works were also staged outside in the expansive museum grounds.

Getting around the museum was a little confusing as some areas were closed off so there were times I had to make a u-turn and backtrack through galleries to just reach the next gallery.

Galleries were quite large for one or more pieces of art. A lot of mixed media along with electronic (video and sound) pieces contrasted with the typical paintings. Descriptions of each work of art was in both Chinese and English.

The VR Experience would normally require a reservation but there was no line when I arrived. Setup was good, images a little choppy but immersive with different episodes based on paintings such as the Scream. I did feel a little dizzy afterwards but enjoyed the VR experience.

There also was a cafeteria, bookstore and a library onsite. The library required a library card to enter.

Overall a worthwhile museum to visit and escape some of the heat during the day.

Sunshine Plaza in Taichung, directly linked to Holiday Inn Express Hotel.
Not a lot of brands, it is too small.

Wuling Farm offers visitors the opportunity to get away from Taiwan's frenetic urban environment. Apart from treking in the mountains, the cherry blossoms in the spring are quite beautiful. Wuling Farm is a tourist farm, t's a great place to camp out.

This is one of the best museums in Taiwan. There are five exhibition centers: The life science hall, the science center, the global environment hall, the human cultures center and the botanical park. Each center worths a visit for 1-2 hours.

If you have kids accompanied, visit the Life science hall first. The Life science hall is essentially a small scale nature history museum. Every child loves fossils, plants, animals, primitive human and dinosaurs.

If you are a foreign visitor. I personally recommend to visit the human cultures center first. The exhibitions in the Human cultures hall includes: Ancient Chinese science and technology, the Spiritual life of Han people, the Culture of Taiwanese aboriginals, ...etc. These are unique and seldom to see in other museums.

There are also some short term exhibitions. For example: “The King of oriental musical instruments” (Serial bells of Zeng Marquis Yi 曾侯乙編鐘), “Together forever” (transdisciplinary exploration of contemporary marriage)…etc. They are of great interest to me.

Tunghai University is one of the oldest private universities in Taiwan; it was established in 1955 as a Christian institution of higher education. Tunghai is is one of several independent private universities in the Taichung region. The campus is attractive, the main feature is the Luce Memorial Chapel, designed by well-known architect I M Pei.

This was a first for me to experience a museum dedicated to the aftermath of a major earthquake. In California we have our share of quakes but the damage promptly removed and replaced. Besides lots of photographs, here visitors could see up close the major damage inflicted on a school and retained for historical purposes. Signs in Chinese and English made it easy to understand. Lots of lessons learned as well as hands on exhibits for both adults and kids helped with understanding of the deadly consequences but also solutions to prevent major damage or death.

The Disaster Prevention Hall was closed during my visit. If you have limited time then head to the back of the museum to the Earthquake Experience Theatre. Each entry was limited to 25 people at a time. Timed tickets were handed out for entry at 15 or 45 after each hour. Once admitted we sat on couches or pillows in the middle of a large room that was intended to represent a home. After a short intro the floor started shaking quite strongly and a number of the kids started crying. In addition the audio track added loud rumblings, sirens and items falling over or breaking. It was a unique experience.

The museum was located a distance from the Le Meridien hotel which was my base. Uber was quick but ran around 450NTD one way. There was at least a 15 minute wait on the way back so I rode the 107 bus back to the old Taichung Station instead. That took around 40 minutes since the driver was able to bypass a number of empty stops. It was also a lot cheaper starting at 20NTD.

Worth a trip here if you have the time.

The cycling experience was interesting because of the different sights along the way.
It’s easy to find as well and I was lucky as a solo traveller, the staff at the bicycle job gave me a ride to the train station on her motorbike as she was heading out to buy lunch. I would also recommend getting a motorbike tour. It’s good fun and interesting way to see the city.

My friend and I passed through Caowu square occasionally after dinner in a working day. Some singers were there with guitar singing local melodies. Street artist was performing behavioral art. People are relaxed and indulged in the harmony with nature.

I have read several article about his place and its inspiring history, then decide to visit. If you stay in Taichung, this would be a 4 stars rating, I spent around 20 minutes to look around a colorful painting. Very refreshing in the the morning, nevertheless, if one stays in Taipei and come just for this place visit. It would not worth to come this far to just do this. Had a chance to see the village originator sitting next to souvenir shop posting for guests to take picture with him.

This is an earlier work of the renowned Chinese-American architect, the late I. M. Pei, who also designed the Louvre Pyramid of Paris. It is located within the campus of Tunghai University and is about half an hour walk from the car park. It was a nice stroll under the cool November weather. It has a unique structure which resembles the praying hands from both the front and back views. There’s a lawn outside the chapel where people of all ages enjoying their afternoon activities.

We reached in the late afternoon and stayed until the chapel was lit up. We hung around a café to wait until dark. This can be a quick visit if time is short. Too bad it was locked. You have to visit during the Sunday opening hour if you want to view the sanctuary. If I have the opportunity to visit again, I’ll plan to attend the Sunday worship. This’s also one of my favourite Taiwan attractions.

As soon as I stepped in this temple, I feel that this place is magical, as this temple is really crowded with visitors & followers.. and the other God/Goddess visiting from other temple to here is nonstop...

and this is very interesting because as God/Goddess visiting here, they will bring on a parade of their own, it consist of possible dozen of person to parade their entrance and exit into this temple...

They welcome all visitor to even go in and make prayers... no restriction... but as all temple .. please show respect and wear appropriate...

This temple definite has it own charm "magic"... it doesn't matter what religion you into, just pay this temple a visit, and you will see the charm I am talking about

Had great fun! My daughter loved the rides, good for families. The place was a bit run down, however the rides are still good. A bit difficult to get to the place. However at the end we would still be able to get a shuttle bus back to the station, so it wasnt that bad. But not much instructions of how to get to Lihpao Land. If they can provide more information of how to get there it would be better.
