We took a litte TukTuk from Kalatura North as the beach in Kalatura was not really good. The beach in Bentota was beautiful, broad and clean. There are also sunbeds for rent. Unfortunately, it was nearly impossible to swim due to rough sea conditions. So we didn't decide to come again.

Overall, the experience was great, and hearing the whole backstory and the intentions of the late architect, along with how his soul searching is reflected in every little detail of the property is fascinating to learn about. The guide was nice, insightful, very responsive and helpful. The property seems so well preserved as intended by the influential architect.

If you are in the Bentota area it is a worthwhile doing a river safari with one of the many, companies providing the tours.
The tour we took lasted around an hour and a half and we were lucky enough to see, a couple of small crocodiles, fruit bats roosting in the trees, fish eagles, monitor lizards and also got to feed some monkeys, which was the highlight.
The trip along the river was entertaining and also took in the mangroves.
It was also good to see the white Buddha statues on the banks of the river.
    A pleasant worthwhile trip.

When we arrived, we payed the entrance fee. Our guide was really good and told us a lot and we learned a lot. They alsthough asked several times for donations. The idea of this institution is good, although not everything might be done in the best way.

I did a 2-week Panchakarma cure with Lakmal and his team. I stayed overnight at Lakmal's accommodation.

    About the cure:
At the beginning I was given a detailed initial examination in which my dosha was determined. The plan for the next two weeks was then drawn up.
The massages with Chin were incredible. I always felt very comfortable and in good hands. All the treatments (massages, acupuncture, Shirodhara, ...) were carried out very professionally.

    About the accommodation:
It makes perfect sense to stay at Lakmal if you are doing a 2-week treatment. He takes great care of you and food at his accommodation is always a dream - tailored to your dosha.

The two weeks at Lakmal are to be recommended in every respect and a great experience.
In addition to the treatment, Lakmal organized several activities. Boat safari, temple visit, yoga, meditation, turtle farm (ok, you can skip that :))

If you decide on an Ayurveda cure, you should definitely go to Lakmal and his team :)

Many water sports company have set up at this place providing various adventure rides from banana boat to jet ski, snorkeling to speed boat, kayaking, and others.

Do carry a extra set of clothes when you plan to visit this place and wear comfortable clothes. the water-sports gear are available on rent and included in the package. the price ranges from SLR 500/- per head for a ride to SLR 4500 for package which include few rides. You may also take family / group packages.

The water sports company have a deck of their own and have restroom/ showers and restaurant for drinks and food. This is easily a half day event including pick-up and drop at your hotel.

Do give this place a try and you will not regret.

It's a historic temple very close to the Bentota town. (Google directions are quite accurate and roads are good.)

The temple is said to date back to times of King Devanampiyatissa, but very little remains today from times. Today it is most famous for a stupa believed to hold a tooth relic of arhat maha kashyapa and an intricately detailed stone doorway.

While it may not be as majestic as some other archeological sites, it has its own quite charm. And the little monk who was there with an SDF guard very nicely opened all the image houses just for us. The paintings in the image houses has both local and colonial influences with some interesting results.

All in all it was a nice half an hour spent. It's definitely worth a visit if you are in and around the area of Bentota.

Sunflower has a great collection of various local handicrafts with its own workshop located next to the store. Prices are quite reasonable. Must visit if you are looking for taking a piece of Sri Lanka back with you, even if it’s just a fridge magnet.

Very very good massage, me and my partner came for a 1.5 hour massage and both loved it. We would both love to come back again in the future!
