    A beautiful piece or architecture!
Unfortunately we couldn't get in else I believe I'd give it a 5* rating.
Still the walk to this Theatre is worth your time as you'll probably pass by the Market, Mercato, and the park just in front of it.

We couldn't get in but still as it is a beautiful piece of architecture, it was worth the walk.
We walked from the Korzo to the Mercato and the National theatre so if you do the same you'll probably pass by this beautiful building.

As a resident of Rijeka, I've been a few times. It's an impressive historic palace turned martime and history museum, it's a nice building to see, and there are interesting exhibits. It's located in the museum district, along with the city and torpedo, natural history, computer and toy museums. Visit one, then the rest of them, you can probably make a whole day out of it.

The museum has many interesting animals and insects, but unfortunately we couldn’t understand all of the writings on the wall as some were only in croatian.
We enjoyed the movie that was rolling, the animals were big and we were surprised when we saw them.
We were expecting it to be bigger, but everything else was beautiful.

The building was completed in 1904, designed by Gyozo Czigler, a Hungarian architect, on the site of an old fortress which guarded the city walls in Roman times. It is an imposing building which can be approached by huge staircase. It is conveniently connected with the prison in the adjacent building, which locals call “Via Roma”, the street name during the Italian reign.

The huge and fancy building next to the Capuchin church was built in the 1888 by design of the famous Italian architect Giacomo Zammatti. It belonged to Annibale Ploech who was, together with Whitehead, Luppis and Ciotta, one of the most important figures of the city’s history, especially in its fast industrialization and urban development at the turn of the 20th century. The most imposing feature is its copper dome at the corner of the building, inspired by the Viennese architecture. Don’t hesitate to come inside, the main stairway is nicely decorated with stucco works and iron balustrades. It is one of the most famous city palaces, easy to spot, near the main bus station and the port.

Very nice building central to this small street a bit of the main areas and easy to miss. Built for the engineer whitehead who invented the first torpedo. Was built in 1888 combining venetian gothic with renaissance and viennese baroque style and still is a great sight. The italian high school is on one side and university library on the other.

The channel was designed in 1885 to deviate a part of the local river Rječina (meaning “The Big River”) and prevent the flooding of its final section, which was pretty frequent during the periods of high rainfall season. Although its name meaning the Dead Chanel, it was a major port for vessels bringing oil, vine, fruit and vegetables and its banks were serving as an open market place. Today, the channel is still an important part of the city's life, because all the major roads runs around it and many people walk along its shores going to work or to find some entertainment in the city’s center.

The symbol of the city’s maritime history and power is one of the most beautiful palaces of the city. Designed by Franjo Matiasic in 1895, the building has two facades, one that is overlooking the port and the opposite one facing the Jadranski square. Both are inspired by the late Renaissance architecture decorated with Baroque stone pillars and four sculptures on the top of them. Those on the sea side represents a captain, a steersman, a pilot and an engine-man, and the opposite side are the allegories of the continents connected by ship lines (Asia, America, Africa and Europe). It is a monumental building, one of the most recognizable symbols of the city and the seat of “Jadrolinija”, the largest shipping company in the country which basic purpose is to connect the cities along the cost and the numerous islands with the mainland.

A unique example of the Neo-Moorish architecture in the country, the house was built in the 1898 by the Greek-Armenian, Nikolai Nikolaki Nikolides, who was the Ottoman consul at the time. Located next to the central market, it is a magnificent sight, recently renovated to show its rich decoration with arches, ornaments and arabesques. The most special feature are 96 inscriptions written in four different variants of the Arabic language. It is another important reminder of the cosmopolitan spirit of the city, known for its open-mindedness and the peaceful coexistence of its inhabitants.

The picturesque house named after Bernard Braun and Danijel Biro and located near the central market owes its present appearance to the architect Giovanni Rubinich, who completed the building’s renovation in 1905. Its richly decorated Art Nouveau facade is dominated by the central balconies. The house is easily missed between the bland buildings that surround it, so take a moment and look it up, it is well worth the attention.
