They offered an international buffet, the cruise was along the creek which lasted well over an hour. They had music and friendly staff. We got to the area walking and as we crossed the bridge, we saw what it was all about and had to get down to the water level and do the promenade along the waterfront. We had a gelato at Massimo's and as it grew darker the silhouettes of the gigantic buildings were pronounced by the lights positioned on them. Beautiful. The aquarium is huge and we spent a deal of time watching all the fish.
The underwater zoo is very good for young children, my daughter is 2 and really loved seeing all the animals.
Would say the penguins were great to see but the enclosure is far to small for them. I wouldn't recommend opting for the private beach areas, the public part is good enough. We've been there on numerous instances and never were bothered by anyone. Some people will try to sell you stuff (drinks, tours) but they're not insisting and very polite overall. There are public showers and toilets but not everywhere. There are areas where you can swim at night too. The trainers ( shazir & Lorena ) were great allowed us to see all of the sea lions in their enclosures - no restrictions on own photos or anything like that. It's the largest man made island in the world, and it can be seen from outer space. It took 6 years and 12 billion US dollars to build. It has a monorail running up its spine which ends at the impressive Atlantis Hotel. And, it's not the only man-made island in Dubai. There are several others in various stages of construction. If you want to see it from above, go visit the “View at the Palm”, a 240 meter high viewpoint of the entire island, located on the 52nd floor of the Palm Tower Hotel.
