We were just in awe of the city walls and how intact they are. You can buy your tickets on line or in the city center. Buying on line saves having to stand in another line. Go early or late to avoid the crowds. We were there in September and were lucky that it was not that hot or crowded. We also toured the walls as part of a walking tour which definitely added to the history and experience.
You do have to pay to get on the walls and it is a one time ticket. There are three different places to enter the walls: 1. near the Pile Gate (this is the most popular entrance) 2. by the Place Gate near St. Luke's Fort. 3. At St John's Fortress. If you exit the walls before completing the entire thing, you cannot re enter on the same ticket. You are only able to go counterclockwise around the walls, so everyone is moving in the same direction. If you have purchase a Dubrovnik Pass, the city walls is included on the pass.
If you have a few days here, might be wise to check the cruise ship schedule and not go when cruise ships are in port or go late in the day. But don't miss the walls even if it is crowded.

    Beautiful Island.
Very picturesque and away from the busy city of Dubrovnik.

It's o more than a 10-minute boat ride from.the city harbour which run every 30 mins. Last boat back to the city is 17.00 but if you time it right, like we did, you get to see the beautiful sunset as you return to the harbour.

There are a few bars and restaurants on the island so you can get refreshments or have a nice lunch for something a bit different

Yes this is a major tourist thing to do and I was not sure if it was something I wanted to pay money for. I would say it depends on how much time you have in Dubrovnik. One day, don't take the time. Two days or more? I would say take the time to do it. We booked our tickets on line but honestly there was no separate line for us and we waited on line just like everyone else. Bring a hat for waiting in the ticket line, there isn't any shade until you get to the entrance.

The line moved quite quickly because each car holds up to 32 people and the ride only takes 4 minutes. Most of the time is consumed by the loading and unloading. For the best view on the way UP, get a position near the windows facing the town, not looking up toward the mountain. Similarly, on the way DOWN, get near a window that looks down into town for the best views.

We had a beautiful day, the line moved quickly and it wasn't too crowded up top. We had made lunch reservations on line (months in advance) at the Panorama restaurant and bar. Make these reservations months in advance if you want to request a front row table with the view. It was spectacular. People without reservations were still being seating but further away from the view. They tell you specifically that you have 90 minute time window to eat, but honestly we never felt rushed. We shared a bottle of wine and I remember that the burrata was excellent. We both had some kind of fish and it was really good. Yes, it is pricey but this was a wonderful experience.

There is also another restaurant inside the building where you exit the cable car, a snack shop, souvenirs and restrooms. Getting back down took a bit longer as there were several tour groups and they allowed them to cut the line and get on before the general line was allowed to board. Overall it was well worth doing.

This is the Main Street down the city center, lined mostly with souvenir shops and a few restaurants. Honestly it gets so packed with tourists and tour groups, it is really just a way to get from one end to the other. Venture off any of the side alleyways to discover more charm, sidewalk cafes and less crowds.

We walked up and down at around 2ish on an October day. It took us 50 minutes to walk up from the start of the trail. We are physically fit and do lots of sports, it was fine walking but a bit sweaty haha! The way down required more concentration due to the rocks. Wear trainers. The views were good from the top but ruined slightly by the cables of the cable car. Just as good views to be honest from one of the hair pin corners further down on the track up. Good to see though!

We visited the Fortress as part of our Game of Thrones tour. There are stairs to climb to access the fort (like most things in Dubrovnik). I think touring the fortress would have been pretty boring without a tour guide, at least he provided some history and mostly where scenes for Game of Thrones were filmed. The views of the city walls and old town are just stunning from the fort, so that is worth the visit. The view at the harbor between the old town and the fortress is beautiful as well and a well know port scene in GOT. The Fortress is included in the Dubrovnik pass if you are using it.

Very cool neighborhood not too far fro the old city. Nice place to take a stroll, looking at all of the restaurants and cafes. Truly an upscale neighborhood, probably a good place to look for a hotel.

This is the main entrance into the old city. The buses and taxis park outside in a large parking lot and disgorge the tourists, like us. You will find a stone bridge and then the stone gate. Can be very congested during the day when the number of tourists can be very large. This is where you will want to enter.

    This beach is a beauty.
Love the stairs running from behind the church leading to the beach.
There’s a nice restaurant on the beach and food is nice.
    The bartenders are cool.
Price wise it’s okay I suppose, Croatia is expensive anyways.
This beach is nice BUT do not make the mistake of not having a beach shoes (yes I made that mistake) as the beach is a pebble beach.
    Great views. Love this place.

Three picturesque islands of the Elaphite. Two of them have no vehicles & the third only a small number. The islands offer wonderful strolls along tracks through plantation and crystal clear swimming. There is not much else on the islands - just the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
We travelled with Adriatic explore, which offered a large roomy boat with a tasty lunch of fish or chicken.

We visited the abandoned resort which was badly damaged during the war from Srebreno (20 min walk along a dirt track).

Very sad and creepy to see the empty hotels and buildings. Quite surprised that there was nothing to stop you entering these very dilapidated buildings and no warning signs. We did not go inside but many did venturing to high floors!

A strange thing to recommend but a must see when in the area.

We stayed for a week at the TUI BLUE Kalamota Island in a junior suite with views of the pool, beach, sea and mountains. It was a fantastic hotel, with lovely staff and fabulous food. The pier for the ferry to Dubrovnik is 5 mins walk away and we got the 07:35 boat which takes half an hour to Dubrovnik. Getting to Dubrovnik early means you get about 21/2 hours of peace before the 'tourist ' descend! There is a supermarket and a gift shop on the island and a guy has a stall selling local honey and home-made jams. The little churches are worth a visit and there's no cars allowed, so everywhere is peaceful.

The Local Guide last stop for us is the City Habour, nestled in the eastern part of the Old Town.
Historic this was the center of trade the old Dubrovnik Republic where wooden galleons were built. Now more can be learn from the maritime museum nearby.
The Old Town harbour is where the boat to nearby Lokrum island departs & we can see some operators selling tickets for the various cruising to nearby places.
The most prominent of the harbour are the 3 arches that were once part of the Large arsenal built in the late 12th and enlarged in the 15th century. The harbour was also the oldest shipyard, and a place where large boats were repaired. Now we have seaview cafes & restaurants instead.
Over time new walkway was constructed along the port and the Porporela breakwater. Now there are benches for the locals to chill while watching tourists like us posing for photos!
    Very Instagram-able!
    Do not miss this.
