I had a wonderful experience today with Gerry from Livin’ da local tours! I had booked the Cultural & Food Experience with him, and highly recommend it!
Gerry, a Singaporean native, was a a wealth of information about his country! We began the tour in Chinatown with cultural visits to the Buddhist Temple and Museum and then to the local Chinese market. We tried some terrific food; fried noodles, fried oysters with omelette, fried rice cakes and rice cake omelette. They were each amazing! We then proceeded to Little India!
We arrived in Little India by taking the metro, which is a great introduction if you’re not used to such transportation. Also, the Singapore metro is incredibly clean, graffiti-free and prompt! We arrived in little India, and walked through the local textile markets, flower market and food market. Of course, we then ate some more terrific food; mutton byriani, and a couple other dishes I can’t recall the names. They were all fabulous, and we were quite full!
Gerry then thought is how to take the local bus to the Malay Quarter. The bus was once again incredibly clean, safe and prompt. Arriving in the Malay Quarter, we walked down some of the famous streets while on our way the the mosque. In each area, Gerry would tell you the history, culture and he had old photos depicting the areas in orevolios times. Again, Gerrybis awesome! We managed to slip a little gelato into the crivfea of our stomachs as the tour ended!
Highly recommended!!!
