- Dan LBunbury, Australia9,012 contributionsIncluded as part of our shore excursion, interesting but not an exciting attraction. Our guide explained that it is one of a number of “prison without bars” established by the United State in 1904. Inmates are required to tend tracts of farmland instead of languishing in cells. Not many guards in evidence, the few inmates spotted in the fields carrying out their duties in a languid manner. When we all disembarked the buses, the music began, inmates on a variety of instruments and accompanied by energetic dancers. A covered area showcased various handicrafts produced by the inmates in their spare time. Nice Rizah monument nearby. It is the largest prison of its type in the country, the entry gate controlled by one guard who gave us a cursory glance and waved the bus through with a smile.Written December 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - joancmartin3 contributionsOur stay at Casa Kalaw, one of the Lio Estates in El Nido was wonderful and relaxing. From airport pick up by JR, front staff, and breakfast/ kitchen crew with Sheila and Leah, the attention to detail and hospitality was remarkable. Our original assigned room had mildew and mould but they were able to accommodate a change of room for us to one that was clean. The overall estate is very environmentally conscious which was educational and useful for us to practice back at home.
The staffs smile lightened up the room and made our stay that much more memorable. Thank you again for great hospitality.Written July 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. To get there rent a bike or a scooter. I personally recommend a semi-automatic bike as a fair portion of the road is muddy and rocky. You clearly don't need to be an expert driver ( I am clearly not) but I wouldn't advise complete beginners to drive by themselves there.
Once you get there, there is no entrance fee unlike the waterfalls near el Nido (over there they charge 350php per person). Here it works on donations. We were 2 people and gave 150php.
You can park your bike at the entrance and ask the people to keep your helmet.
There is a 15ish minutes walk on a beautiful jungle path. A very easy and relax walk.
Once there you will see a beautiful waterfall with litteraly nobody there except for the hundreds of butterflies and dragonflies.
If you are seeking peace and serenity then that's a good one to do.Written June 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TrailBlazer107385Seattle, WA1 contributionIf you’re looking for a break from El Nino’s water activities, I highly recommend this guided Nature Walk with Je of Kalye Artisano. You’ll see and learn the sounds of several bird species unique to SE Asia or the Philippines, and learn to identify and appreciate the ecological importance and uses of key plants and trees as you walk through native habitats close to the Kalye Artisano Center near Lio Beach.
With luck, you’ll also spot a couple separate band of monkeys and see how they police their land boundaries. My energetic and good-humored guide’s enthusiasm was contagious, as I found myself looking more attentively at all things for the rest of our Palawan trip. There may be a 4-person minimum but you can do it solo (like I did) or with a smaller group if you just pay the full but fairly modest guide fee. Due to time constraints, I’d planned on only 90 minutes but the walk was so captivating, and the morning air so refreshing, that I couldn’t break away and happily took the full 3 hours. This was one of the highlights of my full week in Palawan for sure. Start early and take as much time as you can!Written July 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Great view over the bay and i am sure it will bounce back when tourism resumes.Written April 24, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - palawanismyhomePalawan Island, Philippines24,333 contributionsThis tiny park has recently been re-developed and commemorates the Princess Eulalia, the girl who gave Puerto Princesa its name. You will find the park about 200 m from the port but not really worth a special tripWritten September 1, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
