- The_Traveling_ExpatChicago, IL408 contributionsThe fort is definitely a must-see while in Paramaribo. The fort and museum gives a nice history of Suriname from its earliest times to more recent times. This is a good activity to spend about 45 minutes to an hour. However, be aware that most signage is in Dutch, and only a few items have English explanations.Written September 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Floris vHAmsterdam, The Netherlands31 contributionsInteresting historical site consisting of graves, the ruins of a synagogue, and a small museum. It can easily be visited independently. Entry fee SRD 200 pp in 2023. The road there is very good until the bridge. Thereafter it’s 3km on a dirt road (well-maintained). Note that Google Maps might not show you the most direct way (which is via the MLK Highway).Written August 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Patrick24 contributionsWalking around the Historic Inner Ciity of Paramaribo was a definite highlight on my trip to Suriname. The old buildings, some of them being built in the 1600's, were beautiful! Many of the buildings are in need of some serious repair, but the need for repair doesn't take away from the stunning architectural beauty. In fact, some of the aging adds to the stunning visuals that the inner city displays. I definitely recommend a few hours walking around the inner city to enjoy the buildings and the history.Written March 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PimParamaribo, Suriname11 contributionsAlthough not always open, this church is a very interesting one with a lot of history dating from centuries ago when the dutch started to colonize the Guyana's. The interior is beautiful with the old fashioned wooden banks, paintings of elite dutch citizens and gravestones dating from the 17th century onwards.
