- Kathleen P22 contributionsVisiting Jaffa, the church is a must...closed that day but just the outside is nice, near a fountain, great historic place and a nice garden.Written 10 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sandra nSun City, AZ1,281 contributionsNon muslims cannot go inside this mosque but did appreciate the very attractive architecture in this great area of Tel Aviv. This mosque was restored in 1820 by Mahmoud Abu Nabut local ruler who rebuilt Jaffa after Napolean destroyed it.Written 28 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The synagogue was completed in 1926 and renovated in 1970. The synagogue is only used by a few congregants today. When you walk up, they'll ask you to pay 10 shekels to enter. I didn't mind this as it was immediately clear upon entering that the synagogue needs a lot of renovation. However, it was interesting to walk around - very different architecture than I'm used to seeing at synagogues. Worth stopping in for a minute if you're in the area.Written 8 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sheepygoldlondon5,291 contributionsThis is a pretty horrible looking building that replaced a beautiful 19th century school the demolition of which caused an outcry and was directly responsible for the conservation rules that saved numerous buildings in Tel Aviv from the same fate.Written 11 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Been a few placesEpsom, UK1,120 contributionsI was blown away by the beauty of the Hechal Yehuda synagogue. My friend and I decided to visit after seeing a photo in a book in our hotel, showing a few pictures of buildings in the white city. This gem of a synagogue is certainly off the regular tourist trail.
To see the building from the outside you would never know that it is a synagogue, it looks more like a brain from the back (sadly it was obscured somewhat by a construction site), but enter the grounds and you come across a beautiful facade.
We didn't expect to be able to enter the synagogue itself, but as we were walking around the very small grounds we were invited in to have a look as it was closing soon. We were informed that we couldn't take photos (which we of course respected), and as women, we headed upstairs to find a beautiful interior which we could observe from above. The atmosphere was so tranquil and we felt privilidged to have experienced such a lovely place of worship.
It definitely was worth finding our way here, but check opening times first. I just hope the new buildings don't detract from such a wonderful place.Written 7 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
