What travelers are saying
- nancy eRound Rock, TX127 contributionsBeautiful sacred place ruined by cameras , pushing etc. Many people of make this pilgrimage to pray. However many tourists just come to take pictures and beat others to the front of the line making it impossible for others to quietly pay their respect. Please be respectful and know this is a holy place🎁😴Written 18 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MarcusHurleyBristol, UK9,052 contributionsLast stop on our Israeli road trip was Jerusalem. We didn't walk a full circuit of the walls although we did a section of it. We also visited the Tower of David Museum and Citadel, located in the Phasael Tower, one of the original towers built by Herod the Great to defend Jerusalem.
The tower was incorporated into the citadel that held out against the Crusaders for 5 weeks before the capture of Jerusalem in 1099. It was then attacked, destroyed and rebuilt several times during the Crusades and the final structure now is largely a result of Mamluk and Ottoman rebuilding.
It was great to wander around and look at the various layers and time periods incorporated in the buildings and ongoing excavations. The best part was the models of the city at various periods so you cold see both the size and layout but also the major buildings.Written 15 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Its Romanesque architecture is interesting, as is the ruins outside the back of the church. But its wonderful acoustics is what really made the visit there worthwhile. Because of the clarity of sound, choirs from all over the world come to sing. They each have the opportunity to sing one song, psalm, chant or whatever. Listening to them was a wonderful, relaxing and ethereal experience which is well worth the visit.Written 31 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SmartTravelerMuar, Malaysia646 contributionsOur guide brought us to this interesting site in Jerusalem. We walked through a steep car park towards a church. It has a Byzantine dome clustered with marble columns and large arch-shaped windows. It was built near the House of High Priest Caiaphas who judged Jesus.
The Church of St Peter Gallicantu commemorates the triple denial of Peter to Jesus, his repentance, and their reconciliation. It was built over a ruin in 457 CE. The French Assumptionists rebuild it in 1931CE. Inside are displays of the Cockcrow, the Woman, and the Roman soldier. It was inscribed "Woman, I know him not"! The Byzantine interior has mosaics inlaid and renaissance paintings, Gallincantu, in Latin, means the Rooster Crows.
Underneath the church is a dungeon jailroom and a visible manhole at above. It was used to rope down Jesus into the dungeon cell, before the cruxification.Written 5 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rose PacatteCulver City, CA16 contributionsI was invited to be part of the interfaith jury for the Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival in December, 2019. This is the guest house where they put me up. It's in a great location - you can walk to the Holy City if you have good legs! However, I understand that you have to be invited to stay here; it's not a hotel or hostel but more of a conference/artists retreat center. I feel blessed to have been able to stay here. The restaurant keeps kosher so there was no meat in the restaurant. However, the food is wonderful.Written 11 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- jonathangoffJerusalem, Israel46 contributionsThe 360 degree, panoramic views from the tower are amazing and so unique. No other views like it! Great for friends or family. If you go down one flight of stair from the elevator, you can look at the cool bells in the tower!Written 9 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BluebellesLondon2,531 contributionsThis was recommended on a cold winter day and it fitted in well with my plans in town.
There were only one or two other visitors there at the time and so I had the pleasure of looking at and enjoying everything at my own pace. The synagogue is beautiful and the explanations are very informative.
I suspect it may not be on everyone's radar but well worth visiting if you can fit it in. There is a small charge but it is very reasonable.Written 12 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
