Surreal and humbling experience walking through Old City Jerusalem. No matter your religion, please take the time to tour this city. It is vast with lots of history, architecture, and culture. I would actually opt for a tour guide for this city, as there is just so much going on. Wear comfortable shoes and pack your patience! Lots of walking and many many people.

Viewing platforms have been place to seperate the none believers from the Jewish worshipers. Some prayed at the wall rocking backwards and forwards, others sat quietly on chairs, while some wash as the joyous sounds of those dancing and singing add a melodic rhythm to the atmospheric vibe.. The women enjoyed a smaller space to the side as there were less of them. Go with an open mind and enjoy. Understand that although tight security is not onourous. Dress respectfully when in the city you don't know where you could end up and you don't want to feel out of place by showing too much skin.

Beautiful sacred place ruined by cameras , pushing etc. Many people of make this pilgrimage to pray. However many tourists just come to take pictures and beat others to the front of the line making it impossible for others to quietly pay their respect. Please be respectful and know this is a holy place🎁😴

Tour of the underground right next to the Western Wall showing foundation stones, tunnels from several civilizations and how each built on the last. Excellent guide.

The roads are pretty narrow. I love the beautiful stone. The views are breathtaking. It would be nice if there were more plaques with information.

It's like a small pocket park with lots of incredibly old olive trees. You can walk around it really quickly and the Basilica is next door. Quite lovely though crowded.

This place fits the descriptions on the bible. The way the tomb lay out. The way the rock would have been rolled to open and close the tomb. The Golghota, the Skull Hill, really looks like skull.

There are two of these tunnels, one dry and lit, the other totally dark and wet.
We chose the one with water flowing through it.

It is narrow: two people can not pass each other without considerable difficulty. It is just five feet high in a couple of places, so I had to stoop in those places. the depth of the water is from a few inches to two feel. It is gently flowing, so relatively fresh.

If there are people in front of you, be prepared for them to stop to take selfies from time to time!

I would say a torch with fresh batteries is essential. Preferably a head torch. Oh, and a waterproof camera if you are concerned about it dropping in the water! Otherwise be careful!
One MUST wear shoes, as the paved stonework under foot is loose in places. Trainers are okay, but of course they will be wet afterwards. We used jelly sandals purchased for use on the beach. They were perfect. We wore shorts which limited how wet our cloths got. There is a changing room, but we did not use it.
At the end of the gently twisting tunnel are a few gently slippery steps leading out to the small reservoir pool and daylight!

Wow! what an unusual experience! Make sure you know the history of the tunnel before you go as it makes the experience even more interesting.

Last stop on our Israeli road trip was Jerusalem. We didn't walk a full circuit of the walls although we did a section of it. We also visited the Tower of David Museum and Citadel, located in the Phasael Tower, one of the original towers built by Herod the Great to defend Jerusalem.
The tower was incorporated into the citadel that held out against the Crusaders for 5 weeks before the capture of Jerusalem in 1099. It was then attacked, destroyed and rebuilt several times during the Crusades and the final structure now is largely a result of Mamluk and Ottoman rebuilding.
It was great to wander around and look at the various layers and time periods incorporated in the buildings and ongoing excavations. The best part was the models of the city at various periods so you cold see both the size and layout but also the major buildings.

Wish that I felt differently, but after seeing how close conflicting areas are to one another I do not think that peace will ever happen.

We almost skipped this site. Our friends have had trouble getting in. Some mornings it is closed with no explanation. We dressed conservatively, showed up around 8:30 am after the first wave of people were in, and had no long line and no hassle. No one searched our bags or asked questions. It was our favourite place in Jerusalem. It is a really large place, so despite its popularity, it didn't feel crowded. Lovely views of the city all round. A photographer's dream. We exited through the cotton gate which leads to the old cotton market and into the warren of streets in the old city. Don't miss it.

It was pretty crowded and there was a service going on. I was in and out quite quickly but I took a few pictures. It's beautiful inside.

Via Dolorosa is the processional route that Jesus suffered. He wore a crown of thorns, was whipped, was humiliated, and carried a heavy cross to Calvary.

The route started from the House of Pontius Pilate. There are 14 stations marked with Roman numerals. Each has a sorrowful story to tell.

We walked Via Dolorosa. At station  4, Mary wept for the suffering of her son. Simon of Cyrene helped to lift the heavy cross at station 5. Jesus' handprint on a wall was marked in station 9. He had to support himself after the third fall. The next 5 stations are located indoors.

Via Dolorosa unveiled epic human evil and cruelty to Divine Passion and Humility. It is spiritually touching amid a busy bazaar selling cheap tourist souvenirs. We continue walking to the Church of Holy Sculpture.

Jesus was crucified, died, buried, and Risen all in this one building!! The most important place on earth!! Go at 5am when it opens, it’s worth it! At least go before 8am, otherwise the crowds are too huge. Bring a coat. Spend as much time as you can!

Jerusalem is a magical city like none other. The ancient and modern history is everywhere you walk. The people are amazing and friendly. The food is wonderful wherever you go. Felt very safe at all times as well. Do not wait any longer to go!
