What travelers are saying
- TravelibrarianIstanbul, Türkiye185 contributionsA real market, bustling with locals doing their shopping. There are also many little bars and restaurants serving great food and local craft beer. Pull up a stool and watch the locals shopping and hanging out. Easy place to get into conversations with people. Very enjoyable atmosphere.Written 24 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ScenicSightsWauwatosa, WI755 contributionsIt was raining and pretty cold, but I liked this mall. We walked around a bit. I bought a few things from Fox. We had something hot to drink and dessert at a cafe and that was nice. The servers were very pleasant. I wish I could have gone back.Written 21 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Krista PStratford, Canada888 contributionsFun experience to have in Jerusalem with a group. We dressed up as biblical characters and then walked through part of the old city to a special spot for a photoshoot.Written 14 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Leopold BloomIt's a state of mind.34 contributionsMost tourists to Jerusalem focus on the Christian quarter or the Jewish quarter, depending on their religious perspective. But it's definitely worth spending some time in the Armenian quarter.
Have lunch at the Armenian Tavern or another traditional Armenian restaurant and then go to one of the Armenian ceramic studios. There are four in the Old City. Vic's is located between the Armenian Tavern restaurant and the Jaffa Gate.
I got to meet Vic, see him paint a few pieces, and talk to him about his creative process. His small shop is crowded with his creations, ranging from very modern art to traditional paintings on traditional ceramics. (Some of the other studios only do traditional work.) It was neat to hear about his life in the Armenian Quarter, see him work, and take him a beautiful souvenir of this corner of old Jerusalem.
And in case you were wondering, he can do Christian pieces or Judaica. He can also personalize pieces in a variety of languages.Written 2 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I have ordered frequently gifts from Baltinester Bros. since 1967! From ordering name necklaces to Shabbat candlesticks, I have always been pleased with their service. They are able to personalize gifts and provide attention to your requests. I always stop there when in Jerusalem!Written 23 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BluebellplasnewyddCardiff, UK1,648 contributionsDon't buy anything here. You will not be able to avoid the souk on your trip to Jerusalem. There are interesting things for sale but you will be expected to bargain. You will be constantly hassled but best to avoid replying in a polite way. I noticed some antiquity shops with "certificates" of authenticity for the items. You would be brave to purchase here. However the souk is to beestenjoyed with the colours and smells.Written 19 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Errol SMarlton, NJ62 contributionsMy wife and I have visited Israel many times. We always stay in Tel Aviv, but travel to Jerusalem by bus for a day. This artists co-op is a short cab ride from the bus station and a nice walk to the old city. Everything in the store is hand made from artists in Israel. The prices are more than fair and the customer service is incredible. We have purchased both in person and on line and have always been 100% satisfied. I can't recommend this shop enough.Written 14 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ester ZJerusalem, Israel349 contributionsIn the center of Jerusalem it is possible to find a quiet place with a great museum and a restaurant.
It was the home of Anna Ticho and her husband a known eye doctor.
It was good that the place was kept and not converted in the high rising buildings as many in the area.
Even the garden was saved and the gallery as part of the Israel Museum has a permanent exhibition and also temporary exhibits of Israel artist.
The resturant was located in a upper floor, mainly of italian food.
It is also a coffee place to enjoy at all time.
It is possible also to have small group celebrations in a separate room.
The elevator to get to the third floor is small and not always work what is a problem for elderly people. It should be consider to fix it.Written 13 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jared G4 contributionsThe owner and his son are very friendly and trustworthy. They run two “no haggle” shops with tons of interesting souvenirs at VERY fair prices. Enjoyed getting to know them and give them business.
Many of the shops I went into seemed sketchy and as someone who doesn’t have to haggle regularly, I would always have a certain amount of mistrust towards other shop owners. That was not the case at this shop. The owners are very easy to talk to and not pushing you for a sale. They are just helpful, easygoing people. Prices at their shop are very reasonable. You will feel very comfortable around them.
Would go back again and will recommend them to others.Written 12 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
