I was in search of the world's largest concrete garden gnome and discovered that it was tucked away in the Reiman Gardens on the Iowa State campus. There is nearby free parking (at least when school is not in session). There is an admission fee to enter the gardens ($11 for seniors). The grounds are beautiful and well cared for. Elwood the Gnome is accessible once on the grounds and you can get up close for your photo ops.

We were most impressed. Wonderful speakers, beautiful buildings, this school has everything you need or could possibly want. We’re throwing’ our hat in the ring.

(The free Rice Krispie treats (invented by a Cyclone), parking voucher, free Caribou coffee, & t-shirt didn’t hurt either.)

Wife and I went on a motorcycle ride on a Sunday. Went to Alluvial and wow!! The building and grounds very nice. The imperial milk stout, and oh henry batata autumn ale were exceptional. The art work is beautiful. Highly recommend this place

Truly a blessing to the Ames community. Not only does this place foster great community, but it also offers a refuge for everyone in the living Body and Blood of Christ.

The Octagon is a great store to shop for unique artwork or just spend time enjoying the fine selections of different types of paintings, pottery, jewelry and many other preferences. They also have artistic classes and events to attend, as well as, permanent and rotating exhibits of artwork.

Although I am not a student, I was allowed free access to see the museum. The young lady at the counter pointed out the glass collection and where I could see a nice pair of jugs. The emerald color was spectacular.

Prairie Moon winery is a fun place on Sundays in the summer months to enjoy outdoor live music and one of their unique wines along with one of their wood-fired fresh baked pizzas. You can also book weddings or parties in their large indoor banquet room.

Torrent Brewing’s Tap room is OPEN. 👍with all the stuff going on. It’s finally nice to find a place that is open. Torrent Brewing Co is not in the fanciest of buildings, but once you step through the door, they have done a great job with the available space. There is a spacious feel to the tap room. Good selection on tap. The IPA was good, but not great. Good wine selection for the wife’s that tolerate there husbands craft beer passion, but can’t get past mich ultra. Ames needs more Torrent Brewing Co. 👍👍

Outstanding venue for college basketball. Great atmosphere with enthusiastic crowd. Not a bad seat in the house. Plenty of nearby free parking.

The building where many influential Iowa State heads or state figures have lived before, it has been restored and preserved to represent the period in which it stood from the late 1800s to early 1900s.

It is filled with many genuine items from that time period, and also doubles as a display for historical kerosene lamps. I spent about 30-40 minutes just wandering around the 3-story display between classes, and it definitely can keep your attention if you're looking to kill that time.
