We loved the north shore. It had a more laid back island vibe, with amazing food trucks, cute towns and shops, and beautiful beaches. Don't miss the local feel and charm of the north shore.

Such a breathtaking and serene place to visit ! We truly enjoyed coming here to pray and to enjoy the scenery. It was an easy drive, and we were able to find parking since we arrived before 9am. They open at 8:30 am and close at 4:45 pm. The drive to the temple was scenic. The temple is set in the valley. We enjoyed ringing the giant big bell before going to the temple. The pond has tons of Koi fish and some turtles. This place was one of our favorite places on Oahu. Highly recommended.

Kailua Beach Park is about a 45 minute drive from Honolulu via the beautiful Pali Highway and is a nice alternative to the crowded beaches of Waikiki. We visited twice during our most recent trip to Hawaii and liked how the beach was perched atop a hill, had facilities available (though not the cleanest), and even as the beach is on the windward side the winds were quite calm! From the beach you can swim or kayak a couple of hundred meters out to a small island (yes, our son was the only swimmer to head out there amongst tens of kayaks), but if you do decide to swim make sure you are a strong swimmer, it is not a casual swim at all! After the beach each time we headed into Kailua town and enjoyed some of the local favorites including Banan, Manoa Chocolates and Down to Earth Market. When in Honolulu or eastern Oahu Kailua Beach Park is a great beach to visit.

We have a timeshare at Ko Olina, and always enjoy our stay. The lagoons are wonderful - although, they are manmade, so don't have the natural beauty of other beaches on Oahu. The lagoons were constructed so that there is constant water flow, though few waves, so the lagoons aren't stagnant water - they are also very safe from sharks due to the constant water flow. A beautiful place for everyone - we love it there!
A note for those who think any of the lagoons are "reserved" for hotel guests - All beaches in the state of Hawaii are *public property* and can be visited by anyone and everyone. None of the lagoons are "reserved" whether they're in front of the Four Seasons or not (although cabanas and umbrellas on the lagoon beaches are reserved for hotel guests/owners). And, so we're clear, "no locals" is not a positive thing to say - its code so creepy prejudiced folks don't have to say what they really mean. In general though, we've found that everyone on the lagoon beaches enjoys themselves with no problems.

Beach is behind houses and nothing special, but the snorkeling is amazing! Not too many people and so much area to cover, you never bump into anyone. The water is not too rough. Make sure to bring what you need as there is nothing to purchase. Definitely worth the drive! Be careful when sitting in the sand as I was stung by what someone called a “Portuguese man-o-war” posing for this stupid picture ;)

Booked the guided tour - TOTALLY worth it! It wasn’t just someone telling you history - our guide was sharing HIS history. His family lived the life and told the stories. Great “off the beaten path” place to get a feel for what Hawaii was really like over a century ago.

Very well done and well organized! If you don't book your free ticket to the monument (at least 1 day prior to your visit, there are limited available), the lines can get pretty long - we didn't & our wait was 20mins. It seems like they alternated boat loads between ticket & non-ticket holders. There were videos and exhibitions that just were brilliant, we ended up spending 1/2 a day here. You really get an insight & on-the-ground view of the attack from an array of perspectives & a look into the consequences that followed. Some parts were quite harrowing, be prepared for a few tears.

A NOTE ABOUT STORAGE! You cannot bring your bag with you - only a purse, water bottle and phone, there is a storage facility - all day small bag storage was $6USD, we didn't mind but just be aware.

Waimea Bay Beach Park is a fantastic North Shore Beach. We visited twice during our most recent visit to Hawaii and on one of the visits there was a swim race in the North Shore Race Series taking place. It was a 2.3 mile point to point race ending at Waimea Bay and our hats are off to those swimmers. It was so exciting seeing all the different finishers come across the finish line.
Like other beaches in Hawaii there are bathrooms at this beach, but they could use a good cleaning and a remodel! Parking can be tight in the smallish lot so please note there are two pull offs on the south side of the road, each can hold about ten cars, and if you can’t park there either about a half mile from the parking lot is a street named Iliohu Place and you can park there too (we did one of the two days and the walk was not too bad). There is good snorkeling at the south end of the beach near the reef and you can also swim to the reef and stand on it! Do note the beach can also be windy at time; make sure to secure your umbrellas!

Beautiful beach and the water was just lovely. Plenty of parking and shade. Showers available but the restrooms left something to be desired. Lifeguards on duty. Drove up from Waikiki twice and the coastal road and lookouts were stunning.

My mom and I were in Hawaii and my cousin drove us here. Breathtaking view for sure. I love that you don't need to hike to see the view. Basically, a few steps from the parking and you will see the mountains.

There are certainly some good bargains to be had here, and in the other few outlets across the street (GAP, Old Navy and Banana Republic). It could do with some more food choices as it really is a full day out.

If you are interested in the royal history of Hawaii, Iolani Palace is a must see. Even if history is not your thing, the air conditioning gives an hour reprieve from the heat! The self guided audio tour provides lots of information. Be sure to head to the basement where royal jewels and stories of the restoration process are housed.

Beautiful place. Came here for a couple hours with grandparents and my 4 and 5yo. We walked and explored the tidepools which are very cool and all over. The view in every direction is amazing. We unfortunately did not see any seals and did not make it all the way to the point, but definitely a place to return to!
