What travelers are saying
- Marina HMiami Beach, FL22 contributionsWe went to Haleakala in the middle of the day. Not sunrise nor sunset and it was breathtaking! We did not have to deal with reservations and there was very little traffic to and from the crater summit. Parking was plenty and easy.
It was a beautiful day and this site is not to be missed. The views are unreal and the feeling of being above the clouds is magical.Written September 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can walk to Whalers Village for dining and shopping, again an ice cream and come back to the beach.
The water was very warm and inviting, but it gets deep very quickly, so not great for little kids. little snorkeling or wildlife compared to other beaches in HawaiiWritten September 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - AnnaLena423Deerfield Beach, FL4 contributionsSo glad I chose to add this to our excursions! The trip was both entertaining and informative. It did not feel commercialized. It felt like a true family-owned business, personable and full of history and culture. It held the attention of my 3 and 8 year old kids, and the grandparents with limited mobility were able to comfortably participate as well (couple steps up and down a bus and standing for max 10-15 minutes at a time at several stops.)
The pineapple itself is absolutely delicious. My extremely picky daughter suddenly fell in love with Maui Gold pineapple (she hated pineapple before.) My father in law was so enamored he requested more for Father's Day (and we happily obliged and had two shipped to him.)
We were on the NCL Price of America cruise but booked this trip direct and I heard after the fact that booking through the cruise you don't get the souvenir pineapples. FYI - YES you can take them on an airplane (we were able to fit our boxes under the seat like carryon.)
The gift shop had some great items, food and otherwise, for purchase. And there is a highly recommended restaurant across the street (we didn't get to go as it didn't work with our timing.)
I would highly recommend this company!Written September 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Went straight to waianapanapa state park (#32). The black sand beach is awesome. A must see. Spent about an hour here. You need reservations. We were able to get same day reservations for 10am. We then came back and did the Lava tubes, quick stop at the market then onto the fresh water pool and falls (#22). Headed back to Kihei and was back at 3pm. Doing all of the road is doable it will just be a long day. The road itself to drive is a challenge, stay alert and go slow. As the driver it is taugh to look the other direction. The sday we went it wasn't very crowded. We saw plenty of waterfalls and beautiful scenery. We stopped for some pictures. I would do it again.Written August 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- lucsimsthomasSan Antonio, TX365 contributionsUnfortunately we could not spend a lot of time at this national park. It was at the end of our Road to Hana trip and we were well aware of not driving back in the dark.
So we made the hour or so that we had really count.
We stopped by the visitor center and got some information and decided to take the shortest trails down to the shoreline and back where along the way we saw some awesome waterfalls before making it to the rocky shoreline.
The park's volcanic roots are on full display at the shoreline and the views were fantastic. We also experienced a little bit of the lush rain forest atmosphere before we had to get back on the road.
As it turns out, we visited the Summit part of this same park on our first try at the Road to Hana. But we were not appropriately dressed (we were only prepared for the road trip but had to turn around) and ended up very cold but got some eyepopping views as part of the side trip.
It is at 10000 feet elevation and very windy and cold. I had to have my husband hold on to me while I took a few photos.
The two sides of the park are as different as night and day, but both offer great experiences and unforgettable adventures.Written August 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. That national park pass is good for three days so if you decide to do the road to Hana and include this trail to see Waimoku Falls, you won't have to pay the additional fee to enter (we did road to Hana on Sunday, spent the night in Hana then did this Pipiwai Trai hike/falls on Monday). This is an easy trail, well maintained with lots of steps and can get slippery when it drizzles/rains so bring good shoes. The trail leads you to a big banyan tree and through a bamboo forest, so fun to hear the knocking of the bamboo trees against each other. Of course, there are lots of breathtaking spots for pictures. Bring bug spray as the spray we did at the car sweat off and the bugs were active. We started at 8am, had a 9 and 11 year old with us, but had to stop often as I threw out my back a couple days before. We finished the round trip hike to the the Waimoku and back by 2pm. We probably could have done the hike in 2 hours if I didn't have to stop so much because of my back. Wonderful trail, with a big Waimoku falls payoff at the end. So worth it. Parking is $10.Written August 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Susan J1 contributionFew tips for newbies -
1) It costs 75 cents per person to enter.
2) Get there early & find a shady spot for your car.
3) Bring a hat & sunscreen.
4) Bring ice water with you. You'll thank me later.
5) Bring a little cash, but most vendors accept cards or Venmo-type cash payments.
6) Bring a bag with you for your purchases.
7) There are a few portable bathrooms available in the back corners of the swap meet.
8) There are plenty of souvenirs to buy - magnets, Keychains, t-shirts, stained glass, resin art, handmade jewelry of varying types, carved wood bowls & decor, carved bone necklaces, fresh fruit & vegetables, flowers, paintings & photos, etc. There's plenty of options with 100+ vendors available.

Lucky for us, our parking ended up being right in front of the beach access. It's a smaller beach but the water is a beautiful turquoise blue. Our girls, 9 and 11, LOVED that the waves were so strong that body surfing was totally an option, although they spent endless time on their boogie boards. We spent the afternoon there and it was a spectacular, relaxing time.Written August 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
