This is one of my favorite Beaches to boogie board when the waves are cranked up or to just swim and relax on a calm day, crystal clear water, sandy beach....its like paradise.
With so few big beaches on the island of Hawaii Kua Bay is everything we need to swim, surf, and take walks in the sand and still have high quality lifeguards and facilities.

great sand, great facilities, great waves, just one of the best beaches if you body surf just be ready to have sand everywhere
A novice would really enjoy this beach, as it's just the perfect amount of waves for riding over or bodysurfing, without the ferocious undertow we found at some other beaches south of there.

This is also one of the best snorkelling beaches on the Big Island.
Every one of the beaches on this island are different.

The soft sand, turquoise water, crescent shaped beach, calm waves, the Hawaiian sky and lot of shade makes this one of the best beaches in the world.
It's less busy, but the sand is so soft, the water (because of the shallow shore) is more turquoise blue, the waves aren't as big as other beaches, and if you're a guest at the hotel, you get the Mauna Kea service.

Having lived in the Caribbean, I am picky about beaches and prefer a smaller, private feel with plenty of shade and blue water.
The beach is approximately 500 yards long and divided by trees and rocks into a series of seemingly separate beaches, so it feels like you're getting your own private beach.

One of our favorite beaches in Hilo to swim and snorkel with turtles!
One of the best beaches for turtles!

Yes, white, red sand beaches but black!? First most I have to say it was such a beautiful scenery, the black sand sparking in the hot sun and luckily we got to see the Sea Turtles as well.
One of Hawaii Island most unique beaches to visit while on the island.

Short drive off highway 19 on north shore, this beach park and memorial commemorates lives lost in a 1946 tsunami.
It is so much worth to get off the Hwy.19, take exit at Laupahoehoe Point Road which will lead you to this beautiful beach park, where huge waves meet with black lava rocks.

The serenity and the sea creature along the shore lets you know how the community take care of their beaches...
We rented snorkel gear and this was recommended as one of the closest beaches to try out snorkeling.

A great place to see both black and green beaches along with Tide Pools, great snorkeling or just looking for a place to watch the waves break over the lava rocks.
We are always so appreciative of picnic tables at parks and beaches, so mahalo for providing those at this location.

For the bit more adventurous, South Point on the Big Island delivers stunning vistas, indescribable cliff jumping, and unbelievable green sand beaches.
We went to the green sand beach on our last trip to Kona and it was by far in the top 5 beautiful beaches I've seen in my lifetime (and I've been around the world!).

Looking for place to take our 2 year old granddaughter.....Not many white sand beaches on Kona but this one is a must...bring plenty of sunscreen and umbrella to shade yourself.

This beach is only a 10 minute walk from our condo and i liked it the best of all the Kohola beaches.
If you walk south (away from the hotel(s)) you can find lots of little "private" beaches along the way.

One of the best beaches for me!! Love love love & must see when visiting the big island!
Our house was actually right across the street from Magic Sands beach and of all the beaches we visited in Hawaii, this was the favorite among the kids for body surfing or boogie boards.

It is easily accessible and one can walk along the shore to access other beaches.
There's a trail going west from that beach to other secluded beaches.

I've been to several nude beaches and this one by far had the most attractive people.

Well worth the 1/4 mile walk to the New Black Sand Beach, because you can see the changes due to time, weather, erosion and vegetation.
When we walked the 0.4-mile hike to the beach, it was laden with magnificent lava formations.

The views are great from the trail and from the « beach » at the end of the trail.

Swimming is enjoyed by all and there is plenty of space and ample facilities to make a day at the beach very comfortable.
I'm sure it would be a perfect beach for someone on the Hilo side close to the hotels but our week the weather was bad and the surf was too strong so we visited other parts of the island.

This beach is the home break for East side town and so you will find a lot of locals relaxing and surfing and body boarding at the three breaks.

We spent the day beach hopping, and this was another one of the "gems" that kept popping up.
The beach was sparsely populated, with a couple of snorkelers in the water and a few swimmers at the far end of the beach.

If you arrive early you will get to enjoy one of the nicest white sand beaches with clear blue green water and it's sheltered from excessive high tides.
The beaches are all open to the public there so if you can snag a parking spot this is a fabulous one.

Beaches here are so beautiful and all are open to the public.
With that said, the beach is great since there are few if any rocks in the sand and it is a wonderful spot to catch the sunset.
