My husband & I took our grandsons, 12 & 14 to DC so they could enjoy and experience our nation's capital. We had 3 full days and we really filled them. We stayed in the Capital Hill/Navy Yard area which does have many restaurants, is close to a Metro station as well as the Baeball stadium. For the Air & Space museum get tickets ahead - it gets full so ticket/passes are needed (free). we go to the Hirschorn Modern Art museum, The Potrait Museum, The Holocaust Museum, American History museum. Also had a tour of the White House as well as the Capital. The Capital tour was a big hit. Made it to most of the monuments during the day but also went back at night because they are stunning at night. Last museum was the International Spy Museum (not a mithsonian and $ticket needed. Went to the National Zoo too, although if short on time skip it. Eastern Market (Capital Hill) is a great stop too. We never made it to Georgetown - next time! (I've been there many times so I didn't mind) Our boys were very engaged at all the Museums - thrye loved Spy Museum.

I visited the National Air and Space Museum with a friend and enjoyed my visit. The exhibits are cool and they have a handful of interactive ones with good information. I'm not personally that interested in aeronautics but I think it was still a good museum overall.

This was a very fun museum if you like all things Science. It's a little chaotic so bring patience. There is lots and lots to see. I would dedicate a few hours for this museum. It also had a great cafe, good sandwiches if you need a lunch break.

The Library of Congress offers a close look at some historical and rare books. You are able to get a free Library of Congress library card if you wait in line and have photo ID. It's a cool walk around, but honestly you don't need to spend a lot of time here. I would rate this a high 4, I just think that it can be a bit difficult to navigate. I'm not sure I would visit again, but I did enjoy it.

Art isn't something I know a lot about, so I always like listening in when the workers/volunteers are talking about paintings. Very nice that they had a coat/bag check, so I didn't have to carry around all my gear. It was a last-minute stop during my day, and it was lovely just walking around looking at art.

This was a very impactful museum, I could of easily spent hours and hours from start to finish if I didn’t have a tight schedule.

Full of interesting information and history, parts can be quite emotional, 100% worth visiting if you get the chance to.

Considering it’s free as well is a bonus.

When I first heard what design had been selected for this memorial, I thought it grossly inartistic and unworthy of what was to be memorialized. When I saw it in person , I realized how wrong I was. This is utterly compelling and a must stop for DC visitors.

Both my father and my husband’s father served in the US Air Force during the Korean war, so the Korean War Memorial was a of particular interest to us. It’s a poignant portrayal of the war and the soldiers who fought. There is a reflecting wall, which features etchings of the many types of support people that contributed in other ways than being combat soldiers. Not really good for pictures after sunset, I was glad we had a chance to come back in daylight the next day for some better pictures. There were symbolisms of the 38th parallel, marking the division between North and South Korea, portrayed by 19 soldiers and 19 stone lines on the ground, making 38 of each, when reflected in the adjacent wall. There is a circular monument around a pool with the names of al the casualties of the war. This was a solemn visit for me.

Everyone should visit Washington DC. Museums, monuments explain the Nation's history. No one knows it all but this is an excellent place to dust off your high school/college US history classes.

Love this place and the tour. For a free tour (booked direct on their website). The building itself is magnificent, out tour guide was fantastic, we learned so much. Everything is very organised and people around you are very helpful.
Just one comment to keep in mind when visiting, you can not bring any drinks or food inside, so make sure you don't have any in your bag as it will be taken away.

Everything was well-organised and the staff were friendly and efficient. I particularly liked the fact that they emphasise you can stay at the top for as long as you like.
The views of Washington are breathtaking, and unique unless you're in an aircraft. There are information boards that are interesting, and even the elevator rides are interesting.
All in all a fantastic experience and a highlight of our Washington visit.
TIP: Tickets sell out almost immediately (i.e. within seconds of the 10am release time). Create a recreation.gov account well in advance and have a couple of practice runs to make sue you don't waste time on the day. Tickets are released at 10am (Washington time), 30 days before the booking date.

This is another location that I had not taken advantage of going to while living here in DC. On the day we visited I was able to meet two WWII veterans who were visiting the location as part of an honor flight. It was awesome to hear their stories and discuss their amazing lives.

I would highly recommend visiting this location.

Hands down my favorite museum I went to on my trip. Shout it out loud that this is a museum you need a full day for. Or at least don't make any hard fast plans the day you do this museum. I went for 5 hours and I didn't even make it to all the levels. That being said it is so well put together, so informative I will suggest this museum over and over to anyone who will listen. You do need timed tickets though so make sure you reserve those (it's free just need to make a reservation). The layout is easy to follow. Lots of places to sit down if needed. GREAT cafe if you're hungry. The gift shop is ok, lots of book options.

This is a great tour. You start in the basement level and there are lots of reading materials and objects to look at that explain what happened up to the assassination of President Lincoln. Then you go into the theater itself (it's still a working theater). I would sit in the upper level on the opposite side of Presidential booth so you can have a good view of it for photos. A national park guide will then come on stage and tell you the whole story of what happened that day as well. He was a great storyteller too.

This was part of my Washington Sights at Night tour, I found this memorial fascinating. I wanted to go back during the daytime but ran out of time during my trip. Lots of great quotes and pretty fountains and landscaping.
