National treasure. Impressive memorial of a great American. Well-maintained and views from every direction give a different optical illusion.

Art isn't something I know a lot about, so I always like listening in when the workers/volunteers are talking about paintings. Very nice that they had a coat/bag check, so I didn't have to carry around all my gear. It was a last-minute stop during my day, and it was lovely just walking around looking at art.

Everyone should visit Washington DC. Museums, monuments explain the Nation's history. No one knows it all but this is an excellent place to dust off your high school/college US history classes.

Everything was well-organised and the staff were friendly and efficient. I particularly liked the fact that they emphasise you can stay at the top for as long as you like.
The views of Washington are breathtaking, and unique unless you're in an aircraft. There are information boards that are interesting, and even the elevator rides are interesting.
All in all a fantastic experience and a highlight of our Washington visit.
TIP: Tickets sell out almost immediately (i.e. within seconds of the 10am release time). Create a recreation.gov account well in advance and have a couple of practice runs to make sue you don't waste time on the day. Tickets are released at 10am (Washington time), 30 days before the booking date.

The Jefferson memorial features a 19 ft statue of Thomas Jefferson, centered in a large open-air rotunda situated on the edge of the Tidal Basin. There are quotes on the walls from the Declaration of Independence and other writings. It is in a beautiful setting, with great views of the tidal basin and various other locations in DC. I especially liked the views of the Washington Monument, across the Tidal Basin. This was one of my favorite memorials in DC.

We have visited Washington many times in the past, but never knew about the Botanic Garden until this visit. Beautiful displays as well as educational exhibits throughout.

Fancy afternoon tea service nicely presented and smoothly served for our monthly luncheon club for seniors. Sandwiches, scones and sweets were delicious and there was a good choice of teas presented to each of us. The service was unhurried and attentive.

We spent few hrs walking down the streets of George towns , it’s really very beautiful and quintessentially a village like in England with no high buildings but lots of small shops and restaurants. All in different styles. If someone blindfolded you and left you in middle of street, you would think you were in England.
If you are in Washington, George Town is must visit.

The Kennedy Center is the premiere performing arts venue in DC. It is a stunning facility with multiple theatres catering to different performance types. The terrace offers beautiful views of the Potomac River. Dining options are fine and there are others nearby. The free performances on the Millennium Stage is an amazing opportunity for both the public and the performers.

This gem of an exhibition includes many of Bonnard's paintings organized by genre: interiors, landscapes, and images of Marthe in the bathtub. There are echoes of Matisse and Van Gogh, and for bonus, Renoir's "The Boating Party" is on display. A lively discussion ensued when we were there as to the intended focus of the painting. I engaged several of the guards, who were thoughtful and articulate ( I always love to talk to museum guards...). The museum is easy to navigate; if you are an American Alliance of Museum member ( AAM) admission is free. But even if you are not, this small and lovely museum is wonderful. Not to miss. Gift shop is also full of great Bonnard themed gifts....

On our recent US History Tour, we walked partway around the Tidal Basin. The Tidal Basin was constructed to deal with the tides from the Potomac River and to rinse silt out of the adjacent Washington Channel. Because the cherry blossoms came earlier than usual in 2024, we totally missed them. Still, we enjoyed our walk, the views of th area, and the memorials that we saw along the way.

The park is so huge and we only had a couple of hours. Will definitely have to go back during the different growing seasons!

With an evening flight home I had a free day so caught the Metro to Foggy Bottom and strolled down to the river. It was Sunday afternoon so quite busy with locals relaxing and enjoying the many bars and restaurants. It is a lovely place to sit and watch the boats and planes going by, or to simply walk along the boardwalk up and down the river. It was then just a short stroll back up to the road to catch a bus back to downtown.
