Lots of lovely, unusual and varied sculptures - very fun to walk through this place. We were here in November, 2023. It's quite close to the mall, free to walk through and has plenty of benches.
    Strongly recommended.

    It's something to do.
It's certainly unique & colorful, however, not the most entertaining or interactive. I honestly expected it to be larger (one large room w/ digital art) maybe 5-7 other small areas with some interacting. "Beyond the light" was more "boring" knowledge based reading than digital art- to me. I personally prefer the "Otherworld" (Ohio) style. To each his own. I wouldn't personally do it again.

We visited this musuem during the January 2019 government shutdown-when the Smithsonians were closed and we didn't visit our usual haunts in DC. We were lucky-under other circumstances we would have missed this smaller, lovely museum. There was a wonderful special exhibit "Amazonagramas" by Roberto Huarcaya on the first floor and several permanent collections by 20th century artists on the upper level. We were able to leisurely and thoroughly enjoy the artists and architecture.

Walked in and was greeted by the staff. There were multiple exhibits around different corners. Surprised to see so many mixed-media works.

This store, housed in an old historic home, is just a short walk from the Anacostia Community Museum. It houses art made by people from all over the world who are of African decent. The items aRe for sale and proceeds go to support women's industries in impoverished countries.

The Anacostia Arts Center is a community friendly with a blackbox theater, cafe, and meeting space. I recently visited for a playwright's musical showcase, and was impressed with the beautiful artwork by local artists and bright airy spaces. The shops have awesome local products, books, clothing and jewelry, and the owners are friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is available, but be sure to arrive in plenty of time to drive around to find a space. If you are planning a local arts event I would definitely recommend checking out the Anacostia Arts Center.

Book Arts sells specialty journals, note cards, invitations and alike items. Steve and John have been doing this by hand for years and can create a custom Journal, photo album or invitations for just about any occasion. They have been working for the White House for years and have created gifts for as high profile figures as the pope.

The Fridge was closed when we went but we were able to check out the street art outside. Follow the murals into the alley across 8th Street. Nice art.

This is quite the find! After leaving the Philips Collection we wandered down a back alley following a big blue sign pointing towards Hillyer Art Space. On arrival the staff was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They told us about Hillyer and how they support under discovered contemporary artists. The show was great and the space is fantastic. We will be back for a First Friday event!

Oh and it is free besides a small donation!

we walked by and didn't try to enter. The building is architecturally interesting yet uninviting to the visitor.

This Club is sandwiched between the White House and George Washington University. It is a private club but open to the public during certain hours. The historic building is worth the visit and you can visit certain rooms that have art hanging on the walls. You can also use the facilities for events. If you enjoy art and a quiet atmosphere this is a very nice venue.

This is a very nice gallery operated by George Washington University and it is located a block from the newly built Textile Museum. If you visit the University, This gallery and the gallery in the Fine Art Department should be added into your itinerary.
