Unpretentious from the outside but The American Computer Museum is one of the most interesting, entertaining and informative museums I've encountered.
Tucked away on the Montana State University campus, it is a cozy museum with a world class collection.
Conrad Mansion Kalispell
We had a bit of free time in Kalispell and stumbled on the Conrad Mansion Museum.
The story of the home from it's glory days, through very hard times to today's lovely house museum was fascinating.
They have an excellent collection of unique fossils, more intact skeletons than many museums and their displays are organized so it is very interesting, educational and easy to understand.
The exhibits on dinosaurs were the best I have ever seen (and I have been to quite a few natural history and science museums) probably because so much research and discovery is done locally.
C.M. Russell Museum Great Falls
Having visited the Sid Richardson and Amon Carter Museums in Fort Worth several times, I already had an appreciation for western art in general and in particular that of Charles Russell.
This is one of the best art museums I've ever been to.
1 Way to experience it
Loved spending time in a 4 of the museums, highly recommend.
I have visited many nice museums but this is a small town museum with a big city feel.
The small museum is very informative, but definitely plan to take the approximately 1-hour tour.
Museum is small but interesting too and has films to keep you busy whilst waiting for the tour.
Moss Mansion Billings
One of the best house museums I've seen
Nice house museum
I've been to the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C., and this museum compares favorably!!
This is one of the most unique museums I have ever been in before.
It was a little pricey, 15 dollars a person, but that also gets you into four other museums they have such as the old car museum, new frontier museum, ww2 museum etc.
Also found the Frontier Museum and Old Car museums to be worth seeing.
This is one of the best museums I've ever been to!
This is a great little museum with many aspects: an old mining "town" to walk around in, mineral and gem displays, lots of displays of old equipment and mining gear and information about the business of mining (co...
Yellowstone Historic Center West Yellowstone
We especially loved the exhibit on the Eagle Store in West Yellowstone, and the neat family that started it decades ago...we ended up visiting the store after the museum and had super huckleberry ice cream at thei...
Great museum!

Range Riders Museum Miles City
One of the finest small town museums we've ever seen.
Stopped at about 12 different museums on this trip and this was one of the most interesting.
They are also members of the North American Reciprocal Museums (NARM), so membership in one of those museums allows for free admission for two persons.
Billings is a growing mecca.I've lived in new York..for this small city this museum has housed some of the greats like Charlie Russell but still have the charm to show off the talented artists.
There are playgrounds, museums and picnic tables and lots of green grass for the kids to play on.
Indoors the exhibits do rotate, but the static exhibit on the right-hand side of the Museum has many hands-on items for the kiddos which are just as fun for the adults!
As a museum lover, and someone who decries the trend of some museums recently to feel the need to "dumb down" their museum approach to the level of 5 year olds - feeling the need to make everything go "whoosh" and...
Loved the movie summarizing the situation & the individual characters involved...learned a LOT! Relics in the museum are great.
I love local museums that illuminate daily life -- high class life, low class life, now or in the past -- so this was my kind of place.
One of the Best County Museums I have been to
Enough museums and sites to keep you busy for a week.
This is a very interesting museum with a quite extensive collection of minerals and fossils.
It is essentially a museum of the old town and full of history from the area with lots of interesting items to review and our guide was full of interesting stories.
Our guide was great, we enjoyed the small railroad museum beforehand, and best of all were the way the children were included.
Large museum with several display of Indian artifacts as well as historical Montana related items such as railroad and agricultural campsites.
This is a fantastic museum with many buildings to go through and history to go around!
Awesome little museum.
Beautiful building which now houses an interesting museum of train memorabilia.
So glad we had the time to take in this historical museum tour.
This B & B is also a museum.
One of the best Indian museums I've seen.
Beautiful museum with great outdoor sculpture garden and local artists selling crafts.
In addition there are artists in residence, workshops, a museum and store.
Loved the museums and the gorgeous town and the Missouri River.
Excellent museums for such a small town
Hockaday Museum of Art eclectic collections are for the person who likes western art, the person who is interested in Native American art, those who love landscapes (especially mountains), and those whose tastes t...
Wonderful local museum filled with Northwest & Native American art, but surprisingly so much more.
This is probably one of my favorite smaller museums.
We have been to a lot of museums and I would consider this one of the best.
The center and museum is also fantastic and the other paleontologist, scientists and guides were all willing to sit and talk.
In the tiny little town of Bynum, MT, you have a really, really great museum which boasts the biggest dinosaur in the world (albeit a plaster copy).
All of Fort Benton's museums are worth visiting, but this was our favourite.
The Museum of the Northern Great Plains was so interesting and most fascinating.
The downtown Missoula Art Museum is free, easy to access and now even offers an outdoor park for family fun, art exploration and cultural learning.
This lovely museum is a gem! Well placed exhibits by talented artists features different mediums.
Stunning Museum/Gallery
I felt like I was in a museum.
