We booked a convict tour and our guide was Ken who was great. He gave us all the facts and history of the prison with a lot of antidotes thrown in. He invited our group to try out a solitary cell with the lights out and door shut - a few stepped forward and Ken had great glee in slamming the cell door and turning off the lights. This all added to the vibe of the tour. Well worth going on!

Located on the water at Fremantle and with an interesting maritime architectural theme, the Museum has lots of large spaces filled with boats, many suspended from the ceiling, and other maritime exhibits. The highlight is Australia II and HMAS Ovens, a retired Australian Navy submarine, on which an excellent guided tour is available.

This excellent free to enter museum tells the story of the earliest European ships to visit Australia in the early Seventeenth Century. Forget Captain Cook, the Dutch were here nearly 200 years earlier! Fascinating with a wealth of finds salvaged from some of the ships which were wrecked along the coast of Western Australia.

Museum with some nice art. It is not a big museum so an hour or so should be sufficient time to view the art there. Nice relaxing place.

Fantastic Museum located very close to Fremantle and manageable from Perth. The exhibitions were new, with the right amount of detail and diverse. There was a significant amount of Military equipment too and the volunteers were absolutely exceptional.
Visiting from the UK and being in the military, if my regiment had a museum anything like this then I would be ecstatic.

I visited with my elderly grandfather and he thoroughly enjoyed it too.

    10/10 must visit.

The museum tells the story about incarceration of nearly 4000 aborigines, of which over 200 died. It was a sad story, well told with raw stories from descendants, but didn’t seem to say why many of them were incarcerated, why only aborigines or how it fitted into the Australian penal system.

An incredibly well stocked gift store, boutique plant nursery and gallery. So many affordable gift to choose from and some more upmarket choices too. The range of plants includes some I hadn't actually seen before. Who ever you are buying for you can't go past this unban gem.

Have a look, this is a barracks built before WW2, walk the beach and enjoy the surrounds, just out of town.

Every time I visit Fremantle, I call into this shop and every time, I walk away with a beautiful piece of craft. This time, a silk scarf. A wonderful array of hand crafted work to explore.

They were particularly in awe of the antique artefacts, weird looking beds, that there's a very deep well in the house itself ... shocked that there is no microwave oven, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher or television ... lost for words at how clothes are 'stabbed' and 'stirred' for washing and then put through a mangle to squeeze water out of them ... puzzled that the very first car looked more like a tram. Our tour guide Joy was awesome and provided so much info. They had a fun day learning about the Samson family and their way of living.

We spent more time conversing with the Island volunteer then looking at the small exhibition on display. He was a fount of information & loved his job. As an original building it's still worth a quick look and the displays change on a regular basis.

This gallery is in the home of the owners and was very warm and welcoming. There was a wonderful selection of painting works to choose from and we spent quite a long time looking around at the exhibits. Anna and Arthur were very professional, friendly and helpful and provided excellent assistance answering all our questions. Having lived extensively in remote Australia we were reasonably well versed in the indigenous culture and their original works are excellent. A unique place well worth the visit. Thank you.
