Nice statue I'd ACDC frobtmsn Bon Scott. Pretty diminutive but still a good photo stop, especially if you like their music. Close to the seafront and ferris wheel, we really enjoyed a quick visit.

We found this on our way back from the WA Maritime museum and depicts a migrant man facing a dingo (wild dog). This is another bronze statue, a theme throughout Western Australia.

The Jetty commemorates the local fishmen (past) who pioneered the industry in Freemantle and although you might overlook this monument if it was not for the two bronze replica's of fishermen on the jetty , it has 12 timber columns and the names of 608 fishermen. Check the names for their origins for added interest.

When in Fremantle, the Welcome Walls are a rite of pilgrimage for my wife so that she can see and reflect on the record of the ship and her parents arrival in Fremantle. The inscriptions are becoming more difficult to read, weathering of the earlier panels and direction of sunlight. An excellent concept and tribute to early arrivals in the State, now requiring maintenance and the etching refreshed.

John Michael Gerovich (b, 1938) is famous for his spectacular leap over Ray French. However, there is much more to his career than one mark. Gerovich played 221 games in the Western Australin Football League (WAFL) for South Fremantle between 1955 and 1969. In an era when interstate contests aroused passions, he played 19 games for Wesrern Australia. He was selected as an All-Australian in 1956. He missed out on a flag at the beginning and end of his career. Fellow full forward, the journalist Austin Robertson, described Gerovich as "football's human astronaut." Gerovich was inducted into the WA Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

Bella is a healthy lass in a bikini and sits on a bench beside Bather's Beach but sadly the original Bella went missing (stolen) and this is a replacement with enhanced facial features. An interesting addition to the beach.

This sculpture still stands in situ, a poignant reminder of the children shipped to Australia purportedly for a better life. Many did succeed despite the hardships and forged successful lives in their adopted country. Unfortunately there are significant numbers who were treated abysmally by their supposed protectors and who were sent to Australia by various authorities since identified as participants in a web of lies.

This impressive statue overlooks the Fremantle Harbour, which was the brainchild of Irish-born civil engineer CY O'Connor. Charles Yelverton O'Connor (1843-1902) created the Goldfields Water Pipeline, and responsible for the laying of the Western Australian railways. O'Connor has achieved legendary status in Australia's Western Third.

Blink and you might miss it. Only noticed this on the cycle back from the western point and am glad we stopped to have a look. Good bit of history on the island.

We came upon this impressive fine statue of forner Prine Minister Curtin as we visited the Freemantle Information centre and Town Hall.
He has been given a position of great orominence and I must admit, its a very impressive tribute.

This massive Morton Bay Fig tree (across from St Patrick’s Basilica) was planted on the 21st October 1890 to commemorate the granting of self-government to the Colony of Western Australia by Queen Victoria.
At the same location is a memorial to a prominent colonial citizen William Edward Marmion (1845-1896)
It is just other fascinating aspect of the rich tapestry of Fremantle history.

Nice to see that the statue of Sir Hughie has been relocated to a more prominent location on the redeveloped Kings Square. I also read that it's new location means it is now positioned as intended when sculpted in 2002.

On February 1, 1886 Mira Flores hit a reef and the crew were thankfully saved.

The anchor is now on display on the shore at Rottnest Island facing the sea that led to the ships untimely demise.

This rather understated memorial to Tom Edwards was sculptured by Pietro Porcelli and is now located in Kings Square. It commemorates the death of Edwards, a member of the Waterside Workers' Federation, who was fatally wounded when struck on the head by a police baton as he was attempting to assist Union president William Renton.

Sculpture by Greg James. A nice bronze statue of Porcelli, a fellow sculptor commemorated in a corner opposite the Anglican Church near the town hall. Worth a look
