Fremantle is a seaport with a long history as the entry point for new immigrants to Western Australia. St Patrick's dates back to the 1860s. It has since been designated as a Basilica. The current handsome building, constructed of hard-wearing local limestone, dates from 1900. St Patrick's is named after the patron saint of Ireland. The church has offered solace to many lonely newcomers to this port city.

St. John the Evangelist Church is an Anglican church located in the center of Freemantle. Opened in 1843, it was replaced with a larger one in 1882. The original church was located on the site of the Town Hall. The exterior is made of limestone from a local quarry and the roof timbers came from the southern Australian forests. Among the stained-glass windows is the Rose Window depicting the four evangelists. In front of the altar is a wrought iron gate and to the side is a brass lectern. The organ is the first one built in Western Australia. Open to the public every day of the week.

The original Methodist church was built on this site in 1841 and the foundation stone for the current church was laid in 1888. This is an attractive old stone church that has been well maintained and worthy of a look. One of a number of historical and old buildings in Fremantle.

It is built of limestone and red brick and is quite attractive. The church dates back to 1890 and was the first Presbyterian Church in Fremantle and one that declined amalgamation with the Uniting Church. One of many interesting old buildings in the town.

Believed to have been built in 1858 by the aboriginal prisoners the Rottnest Chapel has served also as the Island school house, meeting place, reading room & post office during its lifetime. The silhouette of the Chapel symbolizes all colonial built buildings on the Island. Small & whitewashed it is a great relic of the times and was re-consecrated back in the 1960's and is still in use for Sunday service plus weddings. A great piece of history lives !!

This is quite a modest church. It is all painted in white. It has some simple stained-glass windows. At the front there is a statue of Jesus and one of Maria.

There is also a bell outside the church. It used to be that they had a school here.

    I enjoyed exploring this church.

    It was worthwhile!
