What travelers are saying
- jlanza29Miami, FL898 contributionsWhat a great tour ... I can't stress nigh how many times we have been given a hearing device and told to hear the commentary and how awful they are ....
But what I can say ... this was totally opposite ... the commentary was spot on and excellent and informative ...
The tour is guided by a security guard and one must be at the entrance to go thru metal detectors like an airport a couple of minutes before your designated time.
Once on the self walking tour the information given is excellent ... it's a short 45 minutes but you enter the main rooms and get to see the Hungarian crown jewels which are spectacular to say the least.
I never felt rushed and really thought it was a highlight of our trip.
Entrance fee is a bit steep but I think it was worth it ... YOU must get tickets at least 2/3 weeks in advance especially for the weekends.
Highly recommend it ...Written December 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We visited during the Christmas period and it was so charming, from the gorgeous architecture to the market stalls selling mulled wine and hot food etc. The views from the top are breathtaking. Give yourself a few hours to walk around and just soak it in.
Older or less-fit folk might want to take the lift up because taking the steps up to the Bastion can be quite tiring.Written December 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jordanellie41Longridge, UK1,151 contributionsThese shoes are an iconic memorial in Budapest. It shows a simple but strong message that is asking a heartfelt question...Where are they? It depicts lots of sets of bronze shoes all in differing conditions on the tip of the river's edge, as if to suggest the owners of the shoes have jumped in the river never to be seen again.Written December 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jordanellie41Longridge, UK1,151 contributionsA walk anywhere along the Danube River is a picturesque one day or night. You can take a general stroll or make a point of a long walk and take in many of the sights along this great river. If the weather is really bad, you can take the tram along part of it's route too.Written December 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andrew PMelbourne, Australia10 contributionsA beautiful place to explore at your own pace. The restaurant was fantastic.
The museum was disappointing, lots of artefacts, but no coherent explanation of the changes over time and what is origional.Written December 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jordanellie41Longridge, UK1,151 contributionsThis church is simply awesome. It stands in a lovely large square and has various colours, lots of steeples, clock towers and intricate architecture. It's bells sound on the hour every hour too! Inside is mesmerising with a fabulous array of colourful designs all around it's walls and ceiling. It has beautiful coloured pillars, a majestic altar and lovely alcoves each side of the altar. There is an entrance fee but if you want to get in for free, do as I did and attend the thirty minute mass at 18:00 where you'll also avoid all the crowds. Not to be missed.Written November 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PavlaPavlaChrudim, Czech Republic7,689 contributionsI went to the Hungarian National Opera to see Swan Lake. The interiors were beautiful, richly decorated, with a large foyer (it reminded me a lot of the National Theatre in Prague). I was a little disappointed that you couldn't buy a paper programme there. It was available only online. Unfortunately, we, who don't use data, couldn't read the programme before the performance. The building itself is really very beautiful and it is definitely worth visiting.Written November 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jordanellie41Longridge, UK1,151 contributionsThere are many bridges built on the Danube River, but this is the most iconic of them all. It's structure is absolutely amazing and can be seen up close when walking across it. It's also the perfect spot to get some breath taking photos and videos of each side of the city, the river itself and it's bridges that cross it. It's also worth visiting the bridge both during the day and again at night.Written December 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ernie HCardiff, UK2,233 contributionsA calm within the hustle and bustle of the city. Spent many an hour walking around the island. Stopped for lunch, yes a Langos obviously!
