Visited for the first time in decades with a group of friends and stayed just off the Square, but also tried a number of the bars and restaurants. The central hall has a number of stalls selling local specialities (and tourist tat!) so you may need to be selective. The bars around are a little more expensive than the norm but not outrageously so as in some other cities - they are busy until early morning but have to bring outside drinkers in before midnight. Our previous visit had been pre-Easter when there was a fantastic Easter market with much better quality homemade items on sale. The one downside at night is the sheer number of touts approaching you to go to hidden bars or adult entertainment but these are easily brushed off - although it could do with some local authority assessment
Every time I moved in this basilica, I set up a prayer to bless the people who have to maintain and clean all of these artifacts. It’s really sensory overload. But the story behind the basilica is extremely interesting and it is extremely ornate.
Get your tickets from across the way from the entrance. Super inexpensive.
Very atmospheric with a series of chairs representing the number of jews initially moved to this area and then removed by the Nazis. A small display about the youth resistance is at the southerly end towards the river, with the pharmacy owned by a gentile who set out to save people at the other. Tram stop next to the parc, and ready for walking to the Schindler factory or the tour taking in the prehistoric mound and the wartime labour camp later used as the onsite setting for the Schindlers List film
This is a historic church in downtown Krakow. Church of SS Peter & Paul is a Jesuits institution with distinct facade and elegant interior. It is quite a gem in the Polish city.
This short street connects the Florian Gate, Krakow's former northern entrance with its renowned main square. The thoroughfare is now a lively place with lots of tourists exploring the Polish city. And of course, the shops mainly cater to foreigners.
This was the northern entrance of Krakow. It is now an intact tower that mainly serves as a navigation point for tourists. Quite an interesting place to explore when in the Polish city.
We found a walk in the pocket Lonely Planet guide which took us from the Parc Ghetto via a disused church and fort to the mound, and then beyond into the cemetery and labour camp that was the base for the Schindlers List film. There's a spiral walkway up the mound with great views from the top, and it all makes for a stimulating and emotionally challenging walk
Lovely crossing with nice views down the river both sides. The sculptures hanging from the suspension arms give the bridge great character; but the stand-out feature has to be the locks.
I found Kraków to be a relaxed city full of kind people and affectionate couples. These locks provide a very literal realisation of this in a way that's bound to bring a smile to your face.
We had heard great things about the dragon monument. I think it was a little overhyped. However, it was a cool statue to check out, it’s a nice touch that the dragon blows fire regularly too.
We found the wall by ourselves after following a travel guide and researching tours. It is near Schindler’s Factory and other interesting historical sites and is a not miss if you’re interested in this time period.
This is probably the first stop in Krakow for many tourists. Clean, tidy and convenient, it is a blend of old and new with everything handily available. There is a huge shopping mall right next to it. Good bus and tram connection, too.
We visited here during our time in Krakow. Combined it with another venture. Views were amazing . We had a short walk along the river but had to turn back as it was closed off for some reason. Got a cab to our next venture The Mound
This is a short street in the Krakow old town. Slightly less crowded that the Royal Road, Kanonicza is full of history and cultural significance. Pope John Paul II once lived here.
Food and souvenir stalls populated this square when we visited. The surrounding buildings are very nice as well. My partner and I shared a “big dog” which was tasty.
