- WaterloonieSanta Barbara, CA1,626 contributionsKlatovy is a really lovely town with an impressive main square that features the Black Tower and the Cathedral next door.
Also be sure to check out the White Tower a few blocks away and the church next door to it.
Klatovy is a royal town and worthwhile going out of your way to visit.Written July 6, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was in the Czech Republic looking for a new job. I have been a miller for the past 52 years but recently I have become gluten intolerant so I had to leave my windmill.
A lady who works behind the kiosk selling fags and booze in the co-op told me that in the Czech countryside they are screaming out for mango pickers and mechanics. I happen to be useless at both so I went immediately.
I found this place as I was looking for something to eat and boy oh boy was I glad I found it.
The food was delicious,I would tell you all about it but I don’t know how to describe the pleasure I felt.
The archbishop (perhaps architecture) was very pleasant and I considered touching the walls to congratulate them but there was a sign saying “ pleez no tutchy tutchy ze valls, tutchurz vill bee promiscuous “ so I did.
I was aware of the history behind this building and I asked the bishop how the pills were made and why put them in a glass bottle?
He gave me an explanation but I’m pretty sure that was not a true answer.
The health and safety officer was incredibly knowledgeable about the building and explained that it had never fallen down or caused an injury to anyone in the last 7 years.
I was offered a job nearby,in a sardine pecking factory which I took immediately and enjoy very much. At first,I thought they had made a spelling mistake “ sardine pecking factory “??? They hadn’t,my new job involves me pecking sardines for 8 and a half hours a day.

Some history with videos and one small expo, and the highlight are the mummies, well maintained. All in English and German explained.Written November 1, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Phil GKitchener, Canada671 contributionsWe found these walls by accident. We were walking the area around the square and came upon them. Very interesting - there was some reconstruction of a building happening and it was interesting to see the layers. A pleasant areaWritten December 10, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Marie BPrague, Czech Republic488 contributionsYou can't help noticing this highlight in the square, next to the 'Black Tower'. The renaissance exterior is strikingly beautiful and kept in perfect state; the entrance hall is impressive too.Written January 31, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Phil GKitchener, Canada671 contributionsWe visited this church in June. It is a beautiful building inside and out. Inside there were a couple of ladies monitoring. They allowed / encouraged me to take photos. No english but when I purchased a book on churches they let me have it even though I was a few crowns short. A good memory.Written December 10, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- The Punchline PKlatovy, Czech Republic35 contributionsI have been here a few times over the past few years. At one point it was shut down for renovation because the mummified bodies were getting destroyed. Yes, there are real mummified bodies that you can see that are under this church. I highly recommend visiting here and taking the tour!Written January 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - d_titzovaOrlová4,616 contributionsThe White Tower built in 1581, a belfry to the adjacent church. Following the fire in 1758 it was elongated and refashioned into the current shape. At the time the tower was also a gate to the town cemetery.Written September 1, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - d_titzovaOrlová4,616 contributionsDominican friars returned to Klatovy in 1619 and commissioned the construction of a new cloister and St. Vincent Church. Projected by A. Gilmetti, local master-builder of Italian origin. The former church is currently used for exhibiting modern art.Written September 4, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - The Punchline PKlatovy, Czech Republic35 contributionsI visited this cemetery last year and I felt it could have been better kept! I feel it could be better preserved. It was interesting to see how old some of the graves have been there. Other than that, not much to see in my opinion, just many old grave stones!Written January 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vakantiejozefOlen, Belgium6,113 contributionsDominican church, with adjacent monastery, and the chapel of the Virgin Mary called “Cottage”. History of the church is closely connected with that of the Dominican monastery. The present-day church was built by the Dominicans after the town fire in 1689. In 1785 it was bought by the town and changed into a storehouse. Second half 19th century it was briefly used as a student church for the grammar school. In the course of the 20th century the church interior furniture was removed and nowadays it is used for art exhibition purposes. When we visited an exibition was going on.Written June 22, 2012This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- vakantiejozefOlen, Belgium6,113 contributionsClosed to public and already decades out of order, nevertheless a true hidden gem in a deslolate landscape (only one house on this hill). The municipality of Beňovy is one of the oldest villages in the Klatovy region and existed before Klatovy was established. Built (even before the establishment of Chapel of sv. Klatov Martin, which was the spiritual centre of the three oldest villages in this region: Beňovy, Novákovice and Hórka) as Gothic Parish Church early 13th century on the western slope of the Hill Hůrka Beňovy (the Hill was originaly known as oak Hůrka). Original remnants are the fence and the Canal in the West and the north side. 1735 – 1748 rebuilt in simple Baroque style. With the decreet of Joseph II it was abrogated and left to its fate (17 March 1783, Emperor Joseph II: Elimination of the supposedly "unprofitable" monasteries). Around 1900, the Tower was adjusted. On top of Hùrka (498 m) lies the ruin of Chapel sv. Anny (1712-1725). It was a simple building. After the decreet of Josef II, over time, it turned into a ruin.Written June 22, 2012This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vakantiejozefOlen, Belgium6,113 contributionsSt. Isidor chapel. In “bad condition” is an understatement: the chapel is very delipitated, but perhaps maybe that is why it has so much charm. The door was closed, luckily, as if this door would ever be opened I guess the whole chapel will fall down! I moved my camera underneeth this ‘door’ to check out what was left of its interior, well: not much... A now in ruins lean to was built ajoining the chapel, or at least so we thought it was a ruin, as when inspecting the rear end of this ruin actually we discovered that people were still playing house in this ruin! The chapel of Saint Isidora was built in 1722 by František Albrecht Hrobčický, and was owned by the company Tetětický 1713-1730. The baroque chapel is a simple rectangular building with inverted roof and had a shield to the North. The chapel has a Flèche and dome. The Interior was partially destroyed after 1945. The Chapel is located on the access road that leads to the Castle.Written June 22, 2012This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vakantiejozefOlen, Belgium6,113 contributionsUnfortunate the day we were visiting its interior was closed to public. Former saint Anna chapel. On the site was originally a Gothic church founded in 1331. In 1464 and 1527 restored. In the year 1712 and 1725 the Baroque nave of the Church was closed to the choir. Under Emperor Joseph II the Church was abolishe, and began slowly to degenerate into a ruin. The original tower was in 1887built on the ruins of Church sv. Anna. Later plans were drawn for a new lookout tower, but instead the old lookout tower was demolished. In 1969 a new lookout tower was built with a glass-a view.Written June 22, 2012This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
