Set in exquisitely beautiful Devon countryside, this very unusual granite structure is in the last stages of a huge renovation programme (£13.5m!!!)and it is currently possible to view the works from the scaffoldi...
We had an architects tour - very informative from Chris who was lovely to boot, followed by a climb up steel stairs to the scaffolding above the roof - stunning views - easy to see why the position was chosen.

As well as the ponies, there are pygmy goats, donkeys and various fowls to see, plus a quiet nature area at the bottom of the site, with seats overlooking the lake.
The Miniature Pony Centre was quite close to our hotel, with ample parking and a good restaurant on site.

Very knowledgeable farmer proud to share his farm with visitors and promote a realistic view of the work involved.

Fabulous view from the bridge.
Or even better: park the car at the nearby visitor centre, and take a hike in the area for a couple of hours, e.g. to the Bellever forest or to one of the many "tors" to enjoy the views.

The views over to dartmoor with the changing leaves as well as back to the town are lovely as well as all the ruins, especially loved hearing about the latrines :) we really enjoyed our time there.
Arrived at the this very impressive site, originally built around the Norman conquest although in ruins, gives you an insight into the lives of previous owners through the centuries.
