- Darren DBrisbane, Australia269 contributionsMacintosh Island Park is a wonderful oasis of a park close to Main Beach, Narrowneck and Surfers Paradise. With plenty of shade amongst the trees, there is a lake, plenty of birdlife (such as peacocks), a play area, picnic tables, all in a peaceful and tranquil location just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of Main Beach and Surfers Paradise. A wonderful place to escape the crowds for an hour or two.Written January 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jeanie BDurban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa141 contributionsWhen we visited HOTA last week we were welcomed and told a tour would be starting at 11am. The person leading the tour was very interesting and gave us insight into what motivated the various artists whose work was on display.
The exhibition that impressed me was Donna Marcus' Radiate. The artist uses found objects, mainly form kitchens to create abstract artworks that reflect light or have lights behind the constructions. Many are geometric - spiralling out from the centre.
The guide told us that as a child Donna Marcus family were involved in removing metal from ships that were decommissioned and they lived aboard while doing the work. Her pieces have multiple pot lids, sieves and other kitchen apparatus arranged to radiate from a central point. Discarded items have been given a new life in the form of these magnificent installations which encourage quiet reflection on the beauty of found objects symmetrically arranged to suggest a new life radiating from them.
I look forward to the interactive Renaissance exhibition coming at the end of March which promises to give us a new perspective on the works of Michelangelo and other Renaissance artists through 3D projections/Written March 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
