This is a very safe place to swim in Cairns.

The beach and bay is not the safest for swimming.

    There are lifeguards on duty.

Sand is lovely white and manicured each day.

Big pool and lots for kids to do.

Large area in park like location.

    Enjoy.

    Great walk, plenty to see.

Nice views of the city and bay.

Lots of places to rest and take in the sights.

    Heaps of activity.

    Lots of bird life.

Take a walk past the lagoon as well.

There is sometimes singers on the stage and buskers at night.

Take the walk in both the day and night.

The Cairns Botanical Gardens are big, but it was stultifyingly hot (at least to me) and a garden isn’t necessarily the best place to be unless you’re in the shade. But this garden has a rainforest boardwalk, which is just what it sounds like - a raised boardwalk through a mini-rainforest. Theoretically, it sounded humid and full bugs to me, but I was here, it was there so off I went. Another scenario where I had it all wrong – the rainforest was shady and the palms reached so high skyward. Sunlight dappled the floor of the rainforest, there were various birds and sounds of big leaves dropping, plus other noises. There were two types of palm groves and a boggy area. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed looking at the bark on the different trees, how the palm leaves/fronds grow, all the dead leaves on the floor and searching out any floral growth on the palms; it was very quiet, velvety air and warm, but I was glowing, not dripping with sweat. Three people passed me who were striding briskly on their way to somewhere – or just getting exercise. Although the Aboriginal Plant Use Garden is small, it was interesting to me, as was the Bamboo Collection (I had no idea there are so many varieties) and the Flecker Gardens.

An absolute highlight of one of our days chasing waterfalls. Josephine Falls is crystal clear, so unbelievably clean and has a safe and bigger swimming spot at the bottom. Set yourself up on the rocks and you can stay for hours in the shade. There is a fun natural rock slide into the pool as well as a rope swing.

10/10 place for kids! Bring bathers and change of clothes kids loved it. Water was cold but on a sunny day that wouldn’t be a problem and it didn’t stop our kids from getting wet anyway.

Nice market for fruit and vegetables.

Biggest variety we have seen in a long time.

    Lots of stalls offer tastings.

Huge variety of fruits we had never seen before.

There are other stalls offering a variety of different nick nacks and souvenirs etc but not as many as the night markets offer.

Lots of parking available although we walked there.

I confess to loving stained glass windows, so this review is biased. But wow! It is worth seeing the Cathedral windows with a guide because there are all sorts of interesting bits of history associated with the creation of the windows and wonderful details that might be missed without a guide's direction.

Nice swimming spots, and the waterfall is pretty. However, it's a long uphill walk with few views, and there are loads of big black biting flies. Also saw snakes crossing the path, so it's probably good to be noisy

What a great way to spend some time, whether you purchase anything or not. It is a wonderful “museum” of Aboriginal artist’s work. So many different styles and stories. And, yes, we brought home a treasure!

We didn’t stay at casino but decided to go here for late breakfast. Small menu not a large selection of items available. Small serves as well , a little expensive for what you are getting as well!

Loved the beach, the snorkelling was great. A bit cloudy, in the water. Saw lots of fish. But it was way better at the other end of beach up past the resort. Saw a turtle, and lots of colourful fish. An amazing day.

I really liked the general atmosphere of the place. It's been 15 years since I last visited after moving, but even though a lot has changed since then, I find myself smiling at the memories!

It was quite a hot day and the interior coolness was very welcome. The tasting tray provides sufficient varieties to understand their products. best taken with the cheese platter !

I write this review with a divided opinion.

I love the idea of the rock stacks and the unique experience to see so many rock stacks in the one area thinking of the joy that each person has had to do this with their loved ones, adding to the many stacks already there.

But on the same hand, I understand this isn't natural and can be disrupting to the ecosystem and animals that inhabit the area.

When we visited it was about 9:00 in the morning and there were rock stacks everywhere. It wasn't easy to find a rock on that beach that wasn't already in a stack. Yes we made our own stack and we respected everyone else's stack already set-up.

When we drove past that afternoon on our way back from our day trip, every single rock stack was knocked over which really upset our kids, they couldn't believe that people would destroy things people enjoyed creating but when we explained why they understood.

Building a rock stack isn't really any different to building a sand castle, but it's the extent of it. This part of the coast is lined with beach similar to this and the rock stacks are a tiny area overall but if it's affecting the ecosystem it shouldn't be done.

The access to the beach that the rock stacks is on (The Gatz Balancing Rocks) has limited parking and depends on how other vehicles are parked as to what room is there.

Everyone will have their own opinions on this, just about everywhere you travel now you'll see a rock stack and one or two are fine, it's when the whole landscape becomes one that it's an issue for the environment.

I won't be surprised that eventually there will be a sign in place restricting people from doing this. I'm just appreciative of the fact that we got to see it in it's full glory.
