A huge facility with a huge range of military vehicles, armouries and much more from the 1800s and WW1 and WW2 from many different countries.

Tanks, armoured vehicles, cannons, trucks, cars and motorcycles and much much more.

You can take a ride in a tank, they have a large area out back for this.

They have a shooting range down stairs.

We had a bit of a giggle walking around guessing which country the vehicle came from before we got to it. My guesses were fairly accurate for the British vehicles as most had an oil drip tray under them lol.

    Well worth a wander around.

The Cairns Museum was great –one of these small local museums that do a very good job at telling their unique story. The top floor was all about the people who have settled and lived in Cairns from 1907 through now, and they told the stories via photos of a person and a vignette about what they did. Good blend of male/female, whites, aboriginal, Europeans and I thought it gave a good flavor of the town. The next floor was displays around themes like dressing, cooking, safety, home life, work, etc.. more photos and the tools that people used with explanations; the home life part was very interesting to see the rather primitive washing machines from the 1950s, the wooden screened cabinets with the four legs set into metal rings, filled with kerosene to keep the ants out. Very evocative section. The docent in the room was very informative and pleasant.

They have a veranda on the second floor as part of the museum and originally when they told me oh, don’t miss the veranda, I thought “yeah, right – it’s a trillion degrees and you want me to sit outside” but when I saw the door I went outside. Well, I was 100% wrong.! There was a pleasant breeze, ceiling fans, white wicker furniture, and a very nice view over Main Street and the trees. I talked to the same docent later on and she explained that the key in Cairns is to get up high so that you get a breeze; and that’s why a lot of the houses (Queenslanders) are raised and have lots of windows to let the breezes come through. Okay, I was convinced. I would definitely recommend this museum if you want to learn about the history of the town.

The gallery reopened in a new location and there are so much amazing items to see! Most items on display are rare which you don't even see in Japan. If you love Japanese history, antiques, art and/or swords, I highly recommend it! John, the owner, is very friendly and knowledgeable.

A rainy day and popped in mainly to try to keep dry.
Spent ages looking at the Ellis Rowan Collection, amazing historic impressions of birds, butterflies and plants of northern Australia, and PNG. That is the main part of my rating.
A lot of the other stuff was not to my appeal.

What a great way to spend some time, whether you purchase anything or not. It is a wonderful “museum” of Aboriginal artist’s work. So many different styles and stories. And, yes, we brought home a treasure!

Fantastic regional gallery which had great indigenous art on display when we were there. Beautiful gift shop which we couldn't resist and helpful staff that went out of their way to help us.

Amazing art gallery. If in Cairns be sure to drop in and check it out. Great diverse range of art available, and a really cool vibe. Aboriginal artists from all over Australia and local Cairns artists.

The artist Samuel is so talented and great to talk to :)

Don't miss the back exhibition room!

If you love art, you will love this place.

My first walk by I was drawn into the gallery. The photos are beautiful! I went back often before finally deciding I need the picture of the kangaroos on the beach! Just go in and enjoy the photos. There is no pressure to buy.

This is an important military collections. This wide ranging museum is run by volunteers and its displays are in need of some updating, this is slowly being undertaken. I was surprised to discover some fascinating artefacts in my time here. The cap of an Australian war correspondent, who was present at the signing of surrender of Japan in WW2. A Nazi naval flag retrieved from a U-boat by a free diving Aussie off Italy! This is well worth a visit by any military history buff.

I stumbled across this shop in town near PJ O'Briens and was so impressed! Not only do they promote local art and artists, you can have a go at painting or creating various pieces of art yourself! Celina is friendly, cheeky and has a real passion to share the Artists stories with you. Pop in say hi and buy some local art next time you go to town. I highly recommend it!

If you want something uniquely made by a local bespoke artistisan - this is the place to find it. I always get my friends their birthday presents here. I especially love my new wallet. Best place for a chat and a shop

Came across this gem when visiting Mareeba from Cairns. If you love your cars and their history, this is a must see. Many models are in different conditions or repair, but will surely take you down memory lane. The Cafe hosts the creme de la creme of the Ford cars and also some other bric a brac which will take you back in time, without a doubt! Entry cost is very reasonable too.
