She obviously knows the animals personally and introduced them almost as friends. - Phillip FieldLake Macquarie, Australia213 contributionsAustralians were deceived by Government about the extent of war time activity in Darwin. The bombing was ferocious. The video experience here and the small museum are well worth the visit. We took an Uber out here rather than waste a day waiting for a bus. It was very cheapWritten 22 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Rachelle48 contributionsWell worth a visit. The Library alone is worth going to see but closed Mondays. The Timbers used throughout the building are magnificent. Speakers corner a coffee shop atthe back on ground level is worth a stop everything is made on the premises and the view out to the Harbour Magnificent. Just before leaving pay a visit to the Tactile Arts shop, all locally made merchandise, by local Artists.Written 27 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan LBunbury, Australia7,117 contributionsNice to visit a cathedral with an architectural design that is a departure from the traditional. I believe that its the first occasion that I have visited a church that has a parabolic arch running from the exterior over the main entry through the length of the cathedral interior. Certainly creates an interesting interior and draws attention to the beautiful stained-glass windows. The building replaced the former wooden cathedral that had served the community. The foundation stone was laid in 1957, the cathedral opening in 1962 and consecrated in 1972. It was built as a War Memorial Cathedral in the aftermath of WW11. A link with the past is a statue of the wounded angel, struck by a piece of shrapnel from a Japanese bomb, it is now enshrined in the Cathedral as a mute reminder of the bombing of Darwin.Written 3 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AquaPacificaGold Coast, Australia1,310 contributionsHuge shed full of weird and wonderful collection of anything with an engine plus a few odd bits relating to the history of Darwin, run by the Darwin Motor Enthusiast Club. It's free to enter although donations are welcome and run by volunteers that can be found working on their bikes and cars in the workshops. They are a friendly bunch and up for a chat if you feel like it. For anything who likes cars, motorbikes, fire engines, trains, it' worth a wander.Written 6 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Scott GWashington DC, DC332 contributionsWe visited Parliament House for a self-guided tour. The library, which is moden and stylish, was a highlight of that tour. It has some museum-like exhibits, and I was able to pick up some complimentary postcards.Written 10 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Phun88Brisbane, Australia64 contributionsI had visited the temple when I was working in Darwin about 40 years ago. It is still at the same site. Some improvements have been made on the building itself since I last visited. I made a small donation for the upkeep of the building. The temple is open from 8am to 4pm every day and free to visit. Being of Chinese heritage it is great to see that people of all denominations can visit and respect our customs.Written 2 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thais B8 contributionsI easily could have spent a small fortune here, so many gorgeous arts and crafts. The talent of the artists is incredible. The staff were super knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Great care to help us package our large purchase so we could take it home with us on the plane. Also appreciated receiving printed info about the artist. Will definitely be purchasing from the online store tooWritten 4 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan LBunbury, Australia7,117 contributionsUnfortunately, the cathedral was closed when we visited in the afternoon so had to be satisfied with exterior views and seeing the interior through the windows. Part of the previous cathedral destroyed by Cyclone Tracy was incorporated into the new cathedral when it was rebuilt in 1976. The interior seemed devoid of decoration other than the stained-glass window. At the entry gate, plaques attached to each pier give brief information on the construction of the porch and gates in 1944 and the subsequent rebuild in 1965. Other plaques at the rear of the portico commemorate the 40th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy and its path in December 1974.Written 3 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
