The gallery has an extensive range of items from small gift items (scarves, purses) and clothing to large artworks and sculptures. All seems to be high quality.
Although I don’t think owner/manager Felicity is a First Nations woman herself she is very knowledgeable about indigenous art. She provided us with background information on each artist we enquired about but never pressured us to buy. She offered cool filtered water, bathroom facilities and I noted a children’s area.
We visited twice and ended up purchasing two items which she expertly wrapped for taking on the plane. Fabulous service.

A wonderful collection of art something for everyone. Very knowledgeable and helpful, we came away with a woven pandanus mat. Lots of different styles and areas represented so glad we dropped in.

We were staying nearby so dropped in for a look. Some very impressive artists. Paul was very helpful and emailed us a catalogue after we had to return to Brisbane. Will be going back next time we're in town. Thanks Paul.

I follow this mob on Facebook so was super excited to visit in person. A great story and well presented art. It is worth a visit and a good place to purchase art from.

I came to Darwin with one hope in mind, to learn something about the Aboriginal
art of the outback and to purchase one or two nice pieces. I had four galleries in mind to check out. The first was MBANTUA on the downtown Mall in Darwin. As I was looking around at the multitude of pieces on display I realized how little I really knew! A lovely lady, Ebony Allen, came over and asked to help me. She explained about the various artists, their 'themes' that are passed down among the relatives and who were considered the better artists. She gathered a lot of various pieces that were within my budget, and size especially. There were some gorgeously rendered pieces that were much too large for the space that was waiting back in the States. I finally narrowed my choices down to two and explained that this was my very first stop and I felt I had to continue before actually making a purchase. She offered to hold them. The next nearby stop I found no actual help just go look upstairs and see what you like. Just a dizzying array of various works in a jumble.
nothing jumped out. The next gallery had some lovely giant pieces beautifully rendered but did not seem like the primitives I was looking for, nor were the prices! The final gallery the owner was busy reading a newspaper and just said let me know if you have any questions. All the pieces on view were way too large. As I was wandering there I just kept hoping Ebony really had saved the two I liked! I hurried back and bought those and several other items in their nice gallery. What a wonderful selection of sizes, colours and designs as well as an informative lecture on what I was seeing! MBANTUA is THE best place..I left with my Art and even being able to recognize the works of some of the artists on the walls!!!!

Food here was fantastic. All local Australian flavours. Food took a little while to come out but was tasty when it arrived. Poached eggs were a little over cooked but the flavours in the avocado bruschetta more than made up for it.

This is a review of the bookstore and Chinese Garden. My husband collects university shirts and was able to find both a T shirt and golf shirt for reasonable prices. As for the Chinese Garden, it was looking a little rough, but October is probably not peak season for it. That said, it was a 15 minute visit and provided a few nice photo oops.

A fantastic gallery filled with vibrant & great art. Paul’s story as drpicted on the wall & in a pamphlet made his photographic journey come to life. Such beautiful work, just wish I had a few more walls!!

Upstairs in Mitchell St but well worth the visit. A large collection of indigenous art at very reasonable prices. We went in to browse and bought two pieces. I am very pleased with the artwork I bought of Ronald King from Katherine. They also printed out a photo sheet of the work and artist.

This is a gallery with a modest amount of space and an even smaller space for local art work on sale. However, it's great benefit is that it's just next door to the Art Gallery/Museum so if you going there, it's worth calling to Tactile Arts.
