- Dan LBunbury, Australia8,785 contributionsThe monument to Stuart is located in Raintree Park at the corner of The Mall and Knuckey Street. He was an explorer of note who finally opened a route from Adelaide to Chambers Bay on the North coast in 1862 after three gruelling overland treks. There are various inscriptions on the pedestal commemorating Stuart's exploration and the members of his party and also the Bicentennial Expedition jointly by the South Australian & Northern Territory Police Forces in 1988. The monument was originally dedicated in 1974 and rededicated in 2008 after restoration.Written January 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan LBunbury, Australia8,785 contributionsNice monument in The Mall depicting a claypot water bearer standing atop a tiled pedestal. It was dedicated in 1982, a gift from the people of the Greek Island of Kalymnos to recognise the establishment of a 'sister city' relationship and to foster bonds of friendship, culture and commerce. Darwin has the largest population of Kalymnians in the world, amazing what one can learn from a monument. The sculpture is by Irene Kokkinos.Written January 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
