Whilst on the Darwin history and wartime experience tour we found out about Burnett house. We returned the next day. It’s an excellent example of period homes of Darwin. No only did the bullet holes give an interesting twist to the home’s history but the architecture and design was awesome. So glad the National trust look after such building for us.

The old Star Theatre site is now some little boutique shops and cafes. They close early on weekdays. There is a little bit of signage inside about the old theatre that was destroyed in Cyclone Tracy in 1974. It's tucked away in the mall, I had walked past several times before I even noticed it.

The ruins meant little to me until I read the history. The building dates to 1883 and used for civil purposes until occupied by the navy during the war and afterwards by Museum and Art Galleries Board. After Cyclone Tracy vented her fury on the city, the building suffered such extreme damage that it was not rebuilt but later developed as public open space and a venue for performing arts. Worth the detour to view and then cross the road to view Christ Church Cathedral.

Our visit to Survivors' Lookout was a great way to read about some of the history of the Darwin Harbour area. The information boards in the area create an interesting time line to follow. It is a pity that the vegetation has been allowed to grow in front of the viewing platform so the view is very patchy. Having said this it should not discourage visitors from going and checking it out.

Colourful, light and stylish fashions well suited to the Top End lifestyle. Well worth a visit to look right in place in Darwin.
