I am in Malta now and I am writing this not just to review Ecab, but hopefully to help those who are travelling to Malta for the first time and are wondering which is the best mode of transport.
Before our trip, we prep ourselves with the 4 apps - Ecabs, Uber, Bolt and Tallinja bus. We expected taxis to be expensive and thought we would eventually rely on Tallinja bus.
But during our 3.5 weeks in Malta, we only used Tallinja for 1 day - just to try it out🤣 Most of the time, we were either using Ecab if not Uber, and occasionally Bolt.
Ecab is often the cheapest (not always) among the three. In Gozo, we used Uber most of the time.
Tallinja bus costs 2€/pax (you can make multiple trips in 2h). We are a group of 4 and if we are going to pay 8€ in total, that amount could easily get us a taxi from Silema to Valleta.
We tried taking the bus one day,and with 2€/pax, we travelled from Qawra to Mosta, then to Naxxar, and back to Qawra. Making sure we caught the Naxxar - Qawra bus within the 2h limit. 🤣
Anyway, after that exciting bus experience, we have been using taxi for the rest of the time in Malta.
Just an example of Ecab charges :
Silema - Marsaxlokk 13€ (4 pax)
Silema - Valletta 7€ (4 pax) or 13€ (8 pax van)
Silema - Birgu 17€ (8 pax van)
Interestingly, no matter which company you use, you will still probably be picked up by a Bolt car! 🤣 We asked 2 drivers if Uber/Ecab and Bolt are the same company. The answer was, the same driver can be working for more than 1 company, and they just need the different apps on their phone. In Gozo, the driver told us, Uber is cheaper than Bolt, but Bolt has a larger fleet of vehicles. Ask for Amri (driver) he will show you the places to go and give a nice tour around. 100% recommend and also available on Whatsapp so you can share your location easily.

The driver was on time, super cool and took us to a great viewspot for photos. - Lana S1 contributionI would mention that field trip was not booked throughout TripAdvisor but directly through the agency Robert Arrigo and sons.
This happened to be extremely bad experience and very unprofessional behavior! I would give zero stars if possible.
We paid expensive whole day field trip to Gozo island and we were in front of the hotel even before meeting time but the driver was calling wrong names of passengers (completely different name) and left. Nobody contacted us and agent had our number and was informed that we allegedly didn’t show up. When we contacted them they told us that we need to come by ourselves to Gozo island and they will not turn back - that was only 10 minutes after they have left.
After all of that they didn’t want to give back even part of the money and all of this was their mistake. Took us to some lovely local spots and helped us with all our requests during our stay! Amazing service and even let us play Drake in our journeys! Very friendly too! - Menno B1 contributionWe spend a full day trip on the Luzzu, first stop Blue Lagoon. We did some snorkling and cave swimming. After that We went to Crystal Lagoon for lunch. Mark, the driver, did a very good job selecting the right spot to stop, for a nice calm stay here. Later on We went to the '' Pigfarm'' for another swim with snorkling. Time flies when you are having fun...! Back to Mgarr for our drop off. We had a very nice day on the Luzzu, with all complments to the driver, Mark, you are the best!
