The way the whale shark swimming is coordinated is crazy. We got there at about 5AM, and didn’t get into the swimming until about 8AM. It was still a cool experience, though! We weren't able to get pictures because we didn’t have a camera bag, so highly recommend taking one. They have sellers there, but I’m not sure how trustworthy those bags are. The guide was extremely nice. The canyoneering was a wild experience. The guide was really nice as well, and had some crazy skills in taking videos for you! We unfortunately only made it half way through the tour because my partner dislocated his shoulder, and we didn’t get to see the end. We did a private tour, and our driver was incredible. He took us to the hospital 4 hours away from where the canyoneering takes place.

Glazia and Rinaldo were amazing! Glazia assisted us throughout the day as our tour guide and took the most beautiful photos and stayed with our belongings ensuring that we had a carefree day enjoying the sharks and falls. Rinaldo drove us there and back - a total of over 8 hours of driving and he was wonderful. Thank you to the both of them for creating such a magical day for us!

You haven’t been to Cebu if you don’t go to Kawasan Falls in south part of the island, our driver Ian was on time, friendly and knowledgeable of the area; then our guide Marty is a master in canyoneering, awesome at taking pics and knows the canyon very well; both of these gents took care of us, our tour included a home cooked meal at local family home which was heaven sent after the water trail adventure; highly recommend their five star service!

I did this as a solo traveller, so if you're thinking about whether or not to do it alone - don't hesitate!! I was worried I wouldn't enjoy it by myself, but honestly, this was one of the highlights of my time in the Philippines; I had so much fun that I didn't even realise I was 'alone'.

I got picked up by a private car, by a friendly driver, who drove several hours all the way to where I got picked up for the tour.
From there, I met my guide, Merlot, who gave me water shoes, a life jacket and a helmet. You are able to store all your possessions in a locker (or also in the car, as the driver waits for you).

I chose to do the zipline (which costs extra), which you do lying down in the harness, on your belly, facing forward. Super fun.
Expect to do many cliff jumps from various heights, go down mini water slides carved into the rock by nature, go swimming, rope swings, see waterfalls, and the most stunning turquoise water, all amongst beautiful canyons and forest. DO NOT miss this opportunity!!

I brought a camera and Merlot seriously went above and beyond with taking photos and videos all day for me!! I felt well taken care of - he made sure I always felt safe, explaining things, and making jokes, and taught me about the area etc. throughout the day.

Lunch was included too, but for me as a vegetarian, it was very basic. Afterwards, you'll drive home with your original driver.

This tour exceeded all of our expectations and more, and was also very reasonably priced. We joined them for their Oslob whale shark / Kawasan Canyoneering / Moalboal snorkelling tour. Throughout the tour, we were well taken care of by our driver Catherine who was endlessly patient, taking us safely from spot to spot despite the long hours of driving and less than ideal road conditions. Our two guides at Kawasan Remuel and James were also incredible - very fun personalities who guided us through the gorgeous waterfalls and putting in their maximum effort to help us take the best photos and videos. The whale sharks and the Canyoneering were both unforgettable experiences and the sardine run and turtles at Moalboal were also beautiful. 100% recommended but would recommend staying further down south Cebu island instead of staying in Mactan if you want to avoid the longer hours of travel from Cebu to where the attractions were located.

This ended up being a private tour. The price was high, about 2x what I could have paid if I'd booked it after arriving in Cebu, but I think it was 100% worth it. I was happy to have the security of a plan, the guides I had were incredible, and I had private transport to and from Moalboal (which was especially wonderful at the end of the day when I was beat).

This experience was overall magical. The whale sharks were majestic and the canyoneering was so much fun (though MUCH harder and longer than I anticipated... more on that below).

An overview, with some details to help you enjoy your experience:

    Whale Sharks:
    1. They provided me with 2 (thin) towels, which was really nice. I do wish I'd brought a sarong or some kind of wrap though.
    2. Upon arrival in Oslob at the Whale Shark Facility: you'll meet your guide and they'll check you in, get your group number (like at the DMV), and you'll watch a quick safety presentation. Note you can't wear any lotions, sunscreens, etc. while you're in the water with the whale sharks. After that, my guide took me back up the street to a little restaurant where I had a delicious light breakfast (see photo). By the time I finished eating, we went back to the Whale Shark facility and it was pretty much time for me to get in the boat.
    3. Lifejackets are required while you're on the boat heading to the whale shark area, but not once you're in the water. They have masks on the boat - but I wish I had asked for a snorkel. Or, even better, bring your own. If you have free diving experience, you might even want to bring your own fins.
    4. I was solo, and had been told that the workers on the boat would help me with photos but that didn't happen. Once you get out there, there's no signal really, you can just get in the water. Most people on my boat actually didn't get in to the water, which surprised me. I spent nearly 30 minutes, with whale sharks coming within 2 feet of me! It was really hard to get a nice selfie with them, so if you're solo maybe try to find a buddy? I also wish I'd brought a gopro instead of just my phone in a waterproof bag. I got ok quality pics/videos but I know it could have been better.
    5. You can rinse off after, then we went back to the same little restaurant for a very early lunch. Note that this was in the back of a lorry, instead of in the car. It made for a little bit more adventure. :) Lunch was SO MUCH food, and all of it was delicious (see photo). The chicken adobo, soup, and sesame noodles were lovely. It broke my heart to see all the dogs around, begging for food. If you're a sucker like I am, you might end up feeding them.

    Sandbar
    6. After lunch, the guide will walk you over to the "port" for the boats that take you out to the sandbar. To be honest, I could have skipped this whole part. It didn't add much, and I only ended up spending about 30 minutes out there. It was nice to have a chance to buy a beer and a snack from the shop, and I enjoyed my beer in the water. But we left whenever I was ready.
    7. At this point, we left the guide to drive about an hour back north to the starting point for the Kawasan Canyoneering. I wish I'd rinsed more before that drive.

    Canyoneering
    8. When you get out of the car, that's the last you'll see of your stuff so really think about what you might want to bring with you on the canyoneering (though you have to carry everything you bring). I wore a sunshirt and some swim shorts over my swimsuit. To be honest, I wish I'd worn something longer on my legs because I had TERRIBLE chafing at the end of the day. The life vest you have to wear has straps that hang between your legs and they chafed me badly. I brought Keens, which were good but I kinda wished I had some ankle support. I think they'll provide water shoes if you don't have any. I was glad to have my phone in a waterproof pouch - but make sure your phone is fully charged! I was at 30% and ended up having to conserve photos and videos. I also wish I'd brought some cash for some of the shops along the way.
    9. Expect to ride up to the start on the back of a motorbike. It was a driver, my canyon guide, and then me all on one bike. lol.
    10. You'll be given an "option" at this point to either walk 2k to the start or pay another 600 pesos to take the zipline. You can pay for the zipline later if you forgot cash, like I did. You'll want to do the zipline, unless you're really afraid of heights. It went much slower than I expected, and was super fun.
    11. The canyoneering is tough - a great mix of floating, jumping, rock climbing, wading, and hiking. There will be rocks under the water where you least expect them. But it's a beautiful landscape, and my guide was really helpful holding my hand where I was unsteady and taking about 5 million pictures/videos of me.
    12. Overall, it did take about 3 hours and we covered about 5 kilometers. I was BEAT at the end. There wasn't a place to shower but I did change out of my wet clothes (bring a plastic bag to store them in). Then the driver met me and brought me back to my hotel.

    TL;DR:
I'm guessing there's not much difference in the experience you'll get from different guide groups/tours online. If you're cost sensitive, you can book once you arrive in Cebu/Moalboal. Be clear about what food/shower access you'll have with your guide operator. Skip the sandbar unless you're really into it. It's a LONG day, but so worth it.

Great experience and Cayoneering at the falls was one of the best experiences on the island. Driver was very professional and got us where we needed safely. Great meal they served us for lunch. Would recommend this tour to anyone.

The falls were amazing, canyoneering was so much fun and the guides really helped. Felt completely safe at all times, had a helmet, life jacket and water shoes provided including a locker for our non wet stuff like clothes/towels. The colour of the water is incredible and we would highly recommend this for able bodied people. We got food afterwards too and this was very tasty.

Two rather dichotomous views of the experience. Let’s start with the good.

The whale shark swim is so special. These creatures are amazing up close. And we were really lucky that day - about 7-8 were in the area. Apparently, on some day in November, they only had one whale shark!
The swim at Kawasan Falls is also very refreshing! The water was chillingly wonderful! We enjoyed swimming against the current and floating in the cool water on a hot day. Guide her is really helpful and warm. Driver was fast, experienced and safe

    Now the bad.
The travelling time is long. The waiting time for whale shark is long (in spite of us leaving at 3am from Cebu). The return trip was super long (5 hours including jam from Kawasan to Cebu city). Driver Elizer made it better with his entertaining stories and patient nature.
It will be better to pair your whale shark visit with a visit to the Tumalog falls because that means you are not stuck in that little “street” waiting indeterminately for your number to be called. We were there at 6. We queued for the number and got the number and briefing by 6.45am. Only at 8.45am were we asked to go and get the life jackets for the outing. Bring your own snorkel if you think a snorkel is useful. They only provide life jackets and masks.

Overall the two experiences are really nice, but the logistics and unknowns make this either a really enjoyable trip or one that is rather draining.

    Canyoneering
We had a great time! Gim and John made sure we had the most fun and were so high energy! The guys were so funny and seemed to have just as much fun as us and the footage shows it!
John helped my friend with extra assistance to avoid tripping/ slipping whilst Gim captured the whole adventure in my insta 360 camera! He captured better footage than I would have been able to myself and through all the rock slides etc kept the camera safe at all times protecting it with his life! John also brought my phone with us safe in a dry bag and took some awesome photos at Kawasan falls for us too!

    Snorkeling- turtles/ sardine run
The guys made sure we had a great time on our private tour. We weren’t rushed and took things at our own pace and they stayed incredibly patient with us. They did an awesome job helping us get some turtle shots on my camera and pushing my friend under to get some turtle selfies as she was struggling to do so herself. We had the best time! They also captured some incredible sardine footage for us with us swimming through the sardines which looked totally insane!

    Awesome experience definitely recommended
Thanks to Mcrich for making the best day!
