Superb museum, particularly enjoyed the artwork and illustrations section but a great selection of cinema memorabilia from a wide range of genres. In addition the miniature artwork is AMAZING. Well worth a visit if in Lyon.

Fortunately, we had a few days in Lyon is this museum might not have made our itinerary given all the other top things to do in town. But we were able to adjust our schedule, arrive at the open, take a break for lunch, and return for more. This is not a 2 hour walkthrough but rather a solid half a day.

Easy access via the T1 tramway, easy to buy tickets there or online. From the outside you have spectacular architecture..We explored the temporary exhibitions first, starting with the photographic exhibition of Marc Riboud. To our tastes, this was the best of the galleries. Lunch in the rooftop cafe, very edible. Visited the permanent exhibitions after lunch. A well spent few hours

We are family with 2 kids over 10 years old. We spent over 4 hrs here. It was really knowledgeable, especially for the kids to learn the Romain empire history.

We made the journey to the Musee Lumiere as an excuse to go further afield during our third visit to Lyon. So glad we did! It's an easy trip on the metro, and the exit lets you out right across the street.
If you saw the movie "Paris Can Wait", the Lumiere is where Jacques took Diane and let her wander around the exhibit while he "met" with his friend who worked there. ;^)

Set in the Lumiere famiy home, you wander freely from one room to the next, seeing the history of cinema, film-making, the advancements in photography which they started, as well as their contributions to medicine and the injured during WWII.
Truly amazing and inspiring. A lovely afternoon, and walking back to the metro we stopped to watch a game of boules being played in the park across the street.

Excellent for a free museum. Really interesting to walk around and see the inside of the prison that was used in WW2 and up to 2009. Notice boards in French but you did get an English summary of the prison and the boards can be translated on your phone. There are free tours but make sure you turn up to the correct language tour! Would recommend a visit

Displays in French but we got the 2 hr English audioguide for 1€ well worth it! You need 3 hours or more! ESP if you are interested in WW2 history. There is a temporary (?) exhibit so the price is 8€ & includes a 45min movie on the trial of klaus Barbie which was very good & I think you should not miss! It was in English & when we bought our admission tx the lady informed us of the next showing time. There are free lockers for coats/backpacks. Also 1€ coffee vending machine & snack vending machine. Bathrooms were very modern & clean. Easy access/ transport from Lyon metro.

This is a small museum with an option for an extra cost demonstration of weaving on an old Jacquard loom. The museum is interesting, the explanations are in French but they have an English hand out at the front desk. The museum is well done and attractive and if you read everything you will be well informed about weaving and the frequent revolts of the weavers against their selfish capitalist masters. If you opt for the weaving demonstration they will take you across the street to see three traditional looms, one of which will be used by your guide. The explanation will be both in French and English. Then you will watch a presentation on silk, your guide will comment in French only, but be happy to answer your questions in English. The museum and demonstration are included if you have bought the Lyon City Card. This museum is not air conditioned.

I enjoyed the large area dedicated to the OL Ladies, and their success. And proudly displaying Ada Hegerberg’s Ballon D’or. It is a proud club that celebrates every aspect of football, from players to staff to supporters.

Very well done highly didactic museum with some beautiful pieces, especially considering the limited amount available compared to major sites in other countries. The curators have really made the most of what they have found in the area. Some of the mosaics are lovely, but one above all is World class, one of the very best I have ever seen, and it is amazing that, hidden carefully away, it has not been offered as a nice big poster in the shop. Knowing friends in the field of archeology I would imagine people coming from all over the world to see this piece, frankly on a par artistically with the greatest museum offerings or a renowned and famous piece of architecture or painting. The archeological area is charming and impressive.

It's very interesting and as one's eyes (and feet) roam over the whole place, one can only admit that it's done with care, a certain ammount of precision and with good quality products.

Take a guided tour (I suspect that's the ONLY way you can visit here) It's astounding - very very interesting, from the wter collection basin (shown) to the impressively GIGANTIC pumps - it's a great place to visit with family and friends. I selected May 2017 as our visit, but I think it was more likely in May 2016. It doesn't matter - it's timeless.
